This was our first time going to Golden Chopsticks II. It won't be our last. We have been to another popular Chinese restaurant in town dozens of times. Mostly because they have a buffet and our family has been going there when in town for 30+ years. However, it was closed when we went through town. So we had to try some place new. Golden Chipsticks was a pleasant surprise. The atmosphere was nothing special, but they had great service and their food was better than expected. I don't expect Grand Forks to have good Chinese good, but this restaurant was definitely better than I expected. We both got their combo for 1. We liked the ginger beef, it was not overly sweet. The beef and veggies had delicious flavor, crunchy veggies and soft beef. Their chow mein was very good and not soggy...I didn't love their chicken balls, hiwever, others might. Their ration of batter to chicken is a bit off for me. I like more batter and a bit thicker. Their batter was light and more like tempura. Many people like that, I found it makes it a bit too oily, with no flavor. It definitely needs salt, either inside or sprinkled on top when taken out of the oil. But that was the only thing I didn't care for and it was just about my preference. I did hear a phone call where someone wanted to change the items in their combo for 1 and the server said sure but they charge $3.50. The combo is $17.95 for 4 items. You don't get much of each item, but it is enough. Where we live, it is normal to charge about $1 to change out an item in a combo meal, which is important to us as we don't eat pork. So to hear it was $3.50 was a bit shocking. If it was to change all the items in the combo, okay that I get. But if it was to change out 1 item, that is quite expensive. Next time we go, I will find out and up date this review. The other surprise cost I saw was their spring rolls and eggs rolls. Just one cost over $3 and over $4 for the egg roll. That is surprising...I normally throw one on with my meal, but at that price, nope. It would have to be amazing and huge for me to get it and at that price I wouldn't even bother trying it out. Overall, we enjoyed the combo we had and will definitely be back, when we journey through to try...
Read moreWas passing through visiting some distant family. Decided to get the local recommended Chinese cuisine. We had a lot of time to spare so we went in at 1630, ordered takeout, and left to do some other things. We were told 45 mins. When we came back, we were told a few more minutes. Waited 10 then were told another fifteen. We went back out and waited in the car, came back in and were told it would be another 20 mins. We were offered a 10% discount for the next time, which we gave to our family since we aren't from around here. When I asked for a clearer estimate on the timing, I was told they were short staffed, and if I wanted to cancel the order I could. I said I anted to continue the order, but have a better time estimate. The receptionist went into the back, and ta supervisor returned, was very rude to us. Accusing me of making her staff cry, that she only has one cook and they already have us the 10% discount.
Not sure why I was thought of being rude, but I do hope that their customer service is a little better for others. I can't say anything about the food, thank you for when...
Read moreWe always order the dinner for 5 for our family and upgrade the soup to wor wonton. Quality is consistent and very good, staff is friendly, we always order takeout and it’s always quick. They’ve never forgotten to add anything like napkins/sauces to our order. The lemon chicken sauce is to DIE FOR. It has the blest flavour I’ve had anywhere. We pay $115 for our order but the amount of food we get is more than worth it. You also don’t get the typical yucky gut feeling after eating cheap Chinese takeout, the ingredients are fresh and flavour is amazing. 10/10 would recommend!! The only thing I’m sad about is that it took a couple years of us going to a different local Chinese cuisine place before giving these guys a try and realizing there really isn’t anywhere else in the area that holds a candle to...
