New Century Restaurant — Restaurant in Grand Forks

3 stars may be too generous for what I ate. It was hands down the worst Chinese food I have ever had. However, I am taking into account the decades we have eaten at their buffet while driving through town and enjoyed it. The honey sesame chicken seemed like it was left over from someone else's order and re-fried. It was over cooked, dry, no actual sauce (almost tasted like it had sauce on it originally and they re-fried it with the sauce on it and didnt bother putting more sauce back on) and just two or 3 decent pieces the rest were the tiny pieces that you find at the bottom of the fryer. I was shocked when I saw it. Now this was their combo for one, which maybe they take more care making a full serving and don't care what you get for the combo for one. The mushrooms chow mein was mushy and there was a puddle of grease under it all....not a little bit, it was swimming in a lot. The egg rolls were finger size, you got three but they were identical to one's you get in the grocery store where you can't even taste the veggies it is just mush inside. They were awful. I did also get chicken balls, which I did like. I will not be coming back for a combo for one. We have been coming here for decades. We live in Kelowna and would eat here everytime we came through town. We always got the buffet and we always liked it. You give allowances for buffets, like sub par egg rolls and not as great food because it is a buffet and it is sitting there. For a buffet we enjoyed it. This was the first time I haven't been able to get their buffet and had to order from the menu. Their food may be great if you order it and sit down and they make each dish for you. But the combo for one, I would not recommend and I was highly disappointed that it has become the worst I have ever tried. I hope they get back to doing their buffet, not just on...

If I could give this restaurant a -5 I would. Terrible customer service. Asked for a beverage menu and told that I should just order whatever, no beverage menu. No way to know what the costs were. Asked for coffee. Waited 10 minutes and had to ask again. Given creamer but no sugar so then I had to ask for sugar. No smiles from the staff, treated like an annoyance. The video game noises from a young family member were loud and obtrusive. I asked the "hostess" if she could turn the music on and was told that "the radio is broken". Brought out my meal (a 1 person combo) and put it in the middle of the table with a serving spoon stuck into it and side plates. It was luke warm despite being just served. Did not bring out other items at the same time so I was forced to wait to eat or eat before my invited Christmas guest (oh yeah, Christmas day). Then when I tried to politely comment on the poor customer service the woman turned it around on me and told me that I could go to the "other" restaurant. They had their family on one side of the restaurant and seated us on the other side "out of sight, out of mind". If they didn't want to serve customers on Christmas day then they should have stayed closed. Lukewarm and overpriced food with terrible customer service. Definitely not a place to visit or order...

I've had dinner here twice; the food is absolutely delicious & plentiful and the prices are good. Like all small businesses, they're suffering from a lack of staff, so you may have to wait for your food a little longer than you'd want ...but the food is definitely worth the wait, and the staff they do have are super nice. They do a brisk take-out business, but it's a pleasant place to sit-in, as well, and can easily accommdate large groups (give them a heads-up, tho). It's one of new favourite places in...
