We went here while visiting the area. First time, we missed the entrance as it's in an industrial complex with basic signage. 2nd go around the block we were convinced that Big Rig Brewery just up the street was the place. Finally, we found the place. Then, it's hidden inside a building with other unrelated businesses within. After that, we came in and were met by a greeter who seated us. We stopped for a beer and a late lunch. Server did not have actual menus, asked us to scan the QR code on our phones to read their menu. Just a gripe, but if you're going to force us to use your online menu, then make your free guest wifi password known. So, we ordered a couple of starters and a sandwich. When ordering our beer, the server did not know the name of one of the beers! We had to point it out to her on the sign so she knew what we meant. Got the beer, and it was pretty good for an IPA. The ESB, which we had come for, lacked the traditional "warmth" of an ESB feeling more like an ale than a purpose-made ESB. Food arrived, and the portions felt small for what they were. We got the tacos of the day, but due to whatever dressing they used we literally had to pour off the excess liquid as it was dripping out the back when eating it. The amount of meat on it was disappointing as it was mostly lettuce. The sandwich was similar - on the light side for meat but an enormous tomato was on top. Food was OK, nothing fantastic. For a meal that cost almost $100 all in we felt like it was not great value for money. Didn't bother to pick up any beer for the road to take home and couldn't recommend the place. With better service and food offerings we might be back but as it...
Read moreThe Calabogie Brewing Co is as close as you can get to a little jewel of Canadiana in the middle of rural Ontario in the iconic Calabogie Lake. From the building that evidently is part of the Historic heritage of Calabogie, to the inside setting of the beer hall, all the way to the back patio with a beautiful view of greenery that populates the river banks, accompanied by the soothing sounds of the river, are the perfect setting to have an unassuming and extraordinary experience. I had the handmade Canadian pizza topped with Buffalo chicken and Caesar salad, a rather unique combination that paired with the spiciness of the Buffalo sauce and fluffy crunchy crust was excellent, for drinks, I began with the Portage Pilsner that was refreshing, dry and hoppy with a low IBU, for those that don't like beers that are too bitter, and I closed with a K&P 1883: Amber session ale with a low IBU as well and the expected perfumed sweetness off a red beer.
All-in-all, it was a great experience during these warm days of summer while talking about life and business, I'd highly recommend a weekend escapade one hour away from Ottawa with spectacular Canadian Lake and Forest...
Read moreWe are from Ottawa, and we've been here quite a few times over the past 2 years, and this was the first occasion where we had a disappointing experience. The beer and food is great (especially their pizza) and the patio is quiet with a beautiful setting. We decided to go for dinner on the patio on Canada Day after a day of kayaking on the Madawaska. We were really looking forward to getting some of their delicious pizza. We got there at about 5:45pm. My fiancee placed our order for pizza and beers inside. We took our beers out to the patio to wait for our food. We got to chatting and we noticed the food was taking awhile and others around us receiving theirs. Finally, it was almost 6:30pm and we still hadn't gotten our food. I decided to go inside and check because we knew they were closing at 7pm. When I asked, the girl at the counter had no record of our order in the computer. Another girl did remember writing our order down on a pad, but it appeared as though no one bothered to enter it into the computer. At that point, they said the kitchen was closed so they couldn't get us our pizza. We ended up leaving pretty hungry and...
