I was here two weeks ago to get some drinks with my husband. We ordered a nutella latte and a hot chocolate. The staff were so friendly and the atmosphere was beautiful (seriously such a beautiful coffee shop). The pothos ceiling is to die for! However, I just have two complaints:

Both drinks tasted really watered down. I don’t know if you normally keep them very unsweetened or if the barista was just having an off day, but the hot chocolate had barely any sweetness or chocolate flavour, and my nutella latte tasted like a regular latte with the slightest hint of flavour. They were both not good and tasted like water. If that’s on purpose, I’d probably have the people at the counter giving people a warning that it’s less sweet than what they might be used to. If it was an off day, I’d consider making standardized recipes so that it’s almost impossible not to add enough chocolate/nutella/etc… I’ve worked at several small cafes over my life and most of them didn’t have standardized recipes so every baristas drinks tasted different, which probably wasn’t good.

The permanent marker use on the lids. I would switch to pastel or something because smelling permanent marker everytime I took a sip of my drink was really unpleasant.

I hate to leave any sort of bad review especially since this place was super popular and busy, the staff were so friendly, and the vibes were immaculate… but the drinks were not at all palatable and I’m hoping it was...

Brand new( pandemic start up- very brave) this is an adorable spot across from the lake. It is very trendy and cute and clean but you may have a bit of a wait as seating is limited although there are some spots outside as well. We decided to treat ourselves to breakfast for Mother's day but decided to go on Saturday as you cannot make reservations. We arrive around 10 am and snagged a spot inside after waiting only 10 minutes. We ordered 2 Americano coffees ( one with oat milk) to start and I can honestly say, I have never had a more delicious cup a java...ever! Yes...it's pricey...and no, u do not get a refill but it was a special occasion so we had 2 ;) We also ordered the eggs Benedict which was delicious....but I have had similar. I think some added pieces of fruit would take it up a notch as the 18$ price tag was surprising but to be expected as everyone tries to recover from the sht show of the last 2.5 yrs. Was disappointed they were not opened on Monday as we really wanted to snag one more coffee for our return home...lovely ambience, location, food and employees!...

Update 2021: To food is still delicious & the staff is a amazing.

They removed the tent so it's not a dog friendly place anymore. The magic of this place was mostly by the charming tent and the ambiance it was creating.

I am from outside Calabogie and now I won't be making any special trip to go like I used too. I found it was a nice place to stop after or before hiking in the area.

Also inside there is very limited space to sit so I would recommend to call in advance if you are driving from outside the village.

First off, this place is beyond beautiful. We stopped there before hiking in the area. We had our pup with us so we used their outdoor sitting in their tent. We appreciated to wood stove. It was so well decorated. Also, the food was amazing. We had mushroom pastas and a Caribbean soup-I never tasted something like that before. It was different but so good. The coffee was good too. We had an amazing service too. I highly recommend and I look forward...

I visited Oh-el-la Café in Calabogie today and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The atmosphere is incredibly peaceful and relaxing, making it the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a meal. The serene setting, surrounded by nature, adds to the overall tranquility of the place. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, making me feel right at home from the moment I walked in. I had a smoked salmon bagel that was absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. I also tried a cherry cheese Danish, which was heavenly—light, flaky, and bursting with flavor. The coffee was superb as well, with rich flavors that were perfectly brewed. Whether you're looking for a quiet place to read a book, catch up with friends, or simply enjoy a moment of solitude, Oh-el-la Café is the ideal destination. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the Calabogie area. It's a true hidden gem!
