Whoa! What is this place? It's difficult to write a review because it's difficult to wrap my head around what I just experienced. This is a place unlike any other.
First off, it's a bar and a bar only. If you want food there will be none. They have drinks, but there is no menu and really no alcohol on display, so you're playing a guessing game about what they do and do not have. Asked for an old fashioned (a drink with like 3 ingredients) and was told "we don't make those here." OK little odd. Asked for a whiskey and they at least had that. They seem to have a lot of craft beer but again you don't know until you ask. I feel like they could probably streamline the ordering process a bit better, as it's nice to know what's available when asking for a drink.
That said, the service was actually pretty good. The server was very attentive and seemed pleasant. Drinks come out fast.
The interior is where it gets interesting. The best way to describe it would be "your elderly uncle's 1970s-style basement rec room." Everything's unfinished wood. It doesn't really feel like a bar at all. There are a bunch of board games that patrons can play, and I'm pretty sure a random dog walked under the table at some point.
Overall, I'm giving it 5 stars for sheer uniqueness. This kind of place isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea, and TBH I'm not even sure it's MY cup of tea, but I highly recommend checking it out just so you can say you did. Like I said, there's nothing like this...
Read moreMy husband and I visited this place two nights in a row while in Sudbury. The first night, the bartender Justin was excellent. The crowd was cool. We made some friends. The second night, the bartender Colin was seen taking shots with customers and drinking behind the bar. I watched him stumble and mispour. He refused us shots because they ran out of shot glasses and he didn't want to hand clean them. We had no problems, however, we watched a confrontation with another customer that was absolutely wild. The customer asked for a Jaeger bomb, was given Jaeger only, and from then on they were at odds. It was extremely unprofessional and irrational. The bartender was clearly intoxicated (my husband and I also run a bar). The bartender called him a child, insulted him, etc. The customer ended up leaving very quietly while "regulars" yelled at him but then waited outside the later the bartender ended up arguing with him unnecessarily. It's a cool vibe, but don't go unless you're very comfortable with industry behavior. Very...
Read moreIt's cash only, for snack they have chips. It's a tiny bar that almost feels like being in a garage with guys who are enjoying a beer. It has it's regulars. There's a chip stand nearby. But if you go by yourself it can be intimidating as everyone seems to be mingling with their buddies (it's just a personal preference that I avoid crowded bars, I tend to go to 84 Station when it's not full). The bartenders are very nice. Sometimes they have a band playing outside near the bar. It's not a quiet lounge, this is a vibrant bar that has its own vibe, it's definitely unique as Sudbury doesn't have any other bars like this one. You can see and hear the train coming and going...
