Do not go there if you have allergies! The wait staff had to leave and come back every time I asked if food had something in it. I have a lot of things I can't eat so would of been nice if someone more knowledgeable took over my order. I went there because I can only eat grass Fed meats but the burgers have bread in it still. I'm only intolerant to things so I feel crappy when eat things not suppose to. Feel like craps today so think I may still have been miss Informed about food I finally settled on as was only option.
I emailed over a month ago asking about food and was told my request would be sent to the chef and never got a response. I just tried to reply to email to complain and email won't get through. Maybe they will get the message here. If your thing is healthy foods you should have a better way of explaining what's in them as you will attract people like me. I ended up still hungry and making dinner when I got home. I asked how veggies where cooked and was told probably in oil. I can't have certain oils so really limited my option I couldn't even get veggies. In hindsight she said probably ha like go find out for sure. Didn't think to ask if they could just not cook mine in oil. They should offer though I was already having an off day and was getting tired of asking one question and waiting for an answer. Was also for my bday thanks for nothing.
The food did taste amazing and everyone's food smelled amazing but if you don't know if you can eat it because your waitress doesn't know what's in it then what's the point? I don't expect the waitress to know but she could of got someone that did. They could of replied to my email. They could have information on there website. Even the salsa isn't typical salsa so if I didn't have allergies I would maybe still be disappointed at that as there menu isn't descriptive enough to know that.
I was super excited this place existed and then given worse service then places that don't advertise they have...
Read moreSadly each time I have visited Borealis it becomes a less than great experience each time. The first time we came was 3 years ago when we moved to Guelph. Beautiful patio seating, the waitress was beyond amazing with personality, recommendations, service - she was on the ball and the food was so good! We left raving. We have been back three or four times since, and sadly each experience has been a notch worse.
Earlier this year we arrived, and we wanted a patio seat but were told there was nothing available. I saw no reserved signs and there was only one table with people outside. We were sat in the lovely bar area at a window, but throughout dinner remianed perplexed that we could not be outside enjoying the weather when it was still somewhat empty. A few parties arrived, no reservations but were sat ouside. Why could we not have gone outside where we wanted to be? We had come for the patio. It was nto close to full the entire time of our stay.
Most recently, today. We had made a reservation and were told we could not sit by the window in the bar area becuase the seats were reserved. We made a reservation, why did we not recieve one of those reserved spots? Instead we were brought into the dark dining area in the back. A lot of free tables - now why we made a reservation if this was where were going to end up? And the server was okay at best. Not too attentive and not too talkative. Overall we did not feel as though they cared to have us there. We reserved - did not get the reserved spot and the service was meh at best.
I am sad, because I used to feel this was a great place to go, but I think we will be retiring our excursions to Borealis - at least for the the foreseeable future - sadly. I don't understand. At least explain to the customer why, if there is a why, so that we don't keep wondering why but understanding why...
Read moreLast Friday evening we had eaten at Borealis and had a great experience but last evening I made reservations for 3 people at 5:45pm. When we arrived the restaurant had only 2 tables of people. We explained we had a 7:15 movie to go to and ordered our food. About 20 minutes later our nacho platter came(very much over cooked). We waited, and waited, asked numerous times when our food would get there. Meanwhile watching many other orders being delivered to tables that came in well after us. By 6:45 we asked the server once again when our food would get to us and were told there was only one table before us(they also had come in well after us). We sat watching food being delivered to many other tables and still not to us. A server came out to us with 3/$10 coupons to return another time. By 6:55 my husband and son got their food but I didn’t. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with fries. My fries came out but not my sandwich. I had asked for the bill and paid it saying we really needed to go. As we were leaving another woman came out of the kitchen with my very much thrown together sandwich(no apology) in a takeout container. Needless to say, the sandwich never got eaten since we had to rush into the theatre so we didn’t miss the movie. Sadly, not sure we will ever go back again. PS: none of our orders were in anyway complicated at all! My husband got a bowl of soup, my son, a hamburger and fries and, again, I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and fries. I forgot to add that the fries that did come were very undercooked. My husband was very unimpressed with his bowl of soup which was the soup special...
