I order from here all of the time and the food is always good. Last year for New Years I ended up waiting over three hours for my order but I could tell the were over whelmed and having worked in the same industry I was willing to wait patiently. This year was another story. We've had the tradition of Chinese food on New Year's Eve for as long as I can remember and tonight because if utter chaos and terrible management at canton garden, a 25 year old family tradition was ruined. I ordered my family food 6 hours before pick up, we go there at 5:30 and they said my food wasn't ready yet but the kitchen was working on it. We checked in with the host three times and waited over an hour, before I went to another staff member and they told us the order was lost. They then refused to re take our order. Not one person even said sorry or seemed to care that is was a huge inconvenience for my entire family that were waiting for their supper. Having had to wait so long we were unable to order from another restaurant to have the food ready by a decent time and had to have macdonalds.
I am currently the front of house manager for a restaurant off Young street in Halifax, and I have never seen such a lack of leadership....
Read moreWhere to start? I ordered the Hot and Sour Soup. Mistake. Unthickened broth with no flavor, just heat. The tofu was cut into clumsy 1" blocks, almost no bamboo shoots, plain white mushrooms cut as though you were going to saute them to put on a steak and plain chicken instead of bbq pork. And peas! All wrong all the way around. The only thing with any flavour were the green onions.
On to the combo dish. The egg roll was so bad that I would warn you to simply throw it in the trash. Don't eat it yourself and don't even give it to your dog. It was filled with a grey mush that looked a bit like refried beans but just tasted like unidentifiable paste.
As for the rest of the parts of the combo (chicken balls, beef with broccoli and chicken fried rice) it was standard mall fare. No flavour (of course the sweet and sour sauce tasted essentially like sweet and sour sauce). This is the poster child for "Chinese food for people who are scared of Chinese food". The staff were very friendly and the restaurant was clean, but I will never set foot inside again. Admittedly I'm fussy about chinese food and most restaurants don't make the grade, but this was even worse than I could have expected. A real...
Read moreThis place is good IF you eat in! The combo we always order...chicken balls with fried rice and chop suey and the egg roll...is your basic fare but taste is there. We have ordered take-out many times and it was also good. The last 2 times we ordered take-out, we noticed the divided container was smaller and thinner...same price, smaller portions and it (container) was so flimsy that even holding it straight and upright on my lap as I always did, didn't keep the food and sauces hot and in place. The other thing is that they always put the sauce for the chicken balls in a small separate container...now they put a it on the chicken balls and it's all a soggy mess by the time we get home. We live less than 10 minutes away. Service is good there, whether you sit in or take out. However, we prefer take out more at the end of a busy week, and after our last 2 times, we won't be doing that again. Sadly, they have lost us as take-out customers and that means...
