The food is usually good here, but not very consistent. The prime rib was not good, but everything else I've eaten has been some level of good to great. I've eaten 4 or 5 burgers here, one was amazing, and the others were all fine, but nothing too great. The fries and Caesar salad are both great sides. The highlight of all the food I've eaten here has been the Asian nachos. They're excellent. I find the service here is sometimes great, but other times lacking pretty badly. I got the tuna tartare cones once, and they were swimming in so much sauce that I couldn't taste anything other than a really salty sauce. I brought this to my server's attention and she just said "okay" with no offer to bring another or take it away or anything. $17 is a lot to pay for an app that wasn't enjoyable and that you didn't finish eating. I've also had servers drop food and never come back for a quality check and to see if I need anything else, and I've had servers not offer and not bring any starter bread, and then I see it going to other tables. I asked my server how come none was offered to me, and she just told me she forgot. No offer of any actual apology. When restaurants drop the ball or "forget" part of your meal they should own up to it somehow. The place is nicely designed, and not a cheap restaurant, so my expectations are a little higher than sometimes this place lives up to. When the service is good and the food is good, it's worth every penny, but this isn't always the case. I have eaten here 6 or 7 times, and had great service 3 or 4 times, and less than stellar service the other 2 or 3 times. I'll keep going back because it is close to home for me (and I don't always feel like driving downtown for good food), with hopes to see improvement in consistently doing well at service and food. I'll update this review if they start consistently stepping up their game, but it's hard to give more than three stars for food that isn't always great. The pasta vodka was pretty...

Don’t believe the hype about Le Rouge… if there’s any. Supper for three came to $177 including tip. Meal 1 - Ordered $39 7 oz Chipotle steak (Medium) with loaded baked potatoe and veggies. The steak was smaller than a deck of cards and was grey and tough. Pad of hard chipotle butter on it. The loaded baked potato was barely warm and had nearly no toppings to mention. The veggies were undercooked carrots and soggy bok choy. The steak was well done, tough to cut and chew, but somewhat flavourful. The potato was cool in the middle and very dry with an outer skin that couldn’t be eaten ($3 upcharge) Meal 2 - Ordered the $44 NY Striploin (med rare) $15 lobster tail and mashed potatoes/veggies. $14 Whisky business 2oz beverage. Meal presented well on the plate. The steak was properly cooked but still tough to chew. The lobster tail was plastic-like and overcooked as well; very disappointing. The mashed potatoes were the best part of this meal. Whisky business was as expected; decent for $14. Meal 3 - $19 Winter salad added $6 chicken. First ingredient was Quinoa which there was none. The rest of the salad (lettuce, kale, pecans, bacon etc) was as expected.

The waitress only came around to check on food quality only 10-15 mins after it was served. When we were asked about meal, I expressed our disappointment. She offered loaded mashed potatoes as a substitute for the cold baked potatoe. We declined the offer. We received our bill (added the 15% $23 tip) and left hungry, frustrated and underwhelmed. Proceeded directly to Five Guys Bayers Lake for a burger, fries and strawberry...

What an EXPERIENCE! On my journey to achieve status as a "local guide", I decided to take a peek at chef Kunal's newest venture. I was not disappointed. The well trained staff made our experience one to remember. From seating to payment, this place sure knows how to treat a customer right.

As a long time Trois Brasseurs fan, I did not know that I was getting a taste of my favorite Montreal eatery here in Halifax. Apparently Chef Kunal was the mastermind behind that place too! No wonder le rouge was so good!!

Where do I start? The Asian nachos we had for an appetizer were immaculate. Do not be fooled by the relatively small portion size, these babies pack a punch!!!

Next up it was main course time, but don't forget the many bold cocktails and drinks on tap. I personally went for a mojito, which was hand crafted from fresh lime and mint ( a rarity in bayers lake), my partner opted for a glass of wine. Both did the trick!

I opted for the spicy penne alla vodka, something that is not often seen on a menu in Halifax. This dish is often left off menus as it is a hard one to master, but Le Rouge did not disappoint. The perfectly el dente pasta, paired with the unique notes of tomato and vodka had my mouth asking for MORE! I've been trying to re-create this dish at home all week to no-avail. Looks like ill have to go back to le-rouge :)

PS: our server Derria was TOP NOTCH. Most pleasurable experience ive had in the...

Le Rouge - Bold Grill and Cocktails offers an exceptional dining experience that tantalizes the taste buds with its expertly crafted dishes and inviting ambiance. During my visit, I enjoyed the seafood chowder and a 10oz strip loin steak, both of which exceeded my expectations. The seafood chowder was a perfect starter, brimming with fresh, succulent seafood in a creamy, flavorful broth. Each spoonful was a delightful blend of rich textures and savory goodness, setting a high standard for the meal to come. The 10oz strip loin steak was the star of the evening. Cooked to perfection, it boasted a juicy, tender texture with a mouthwatering char that highlighted the quality of the meat. The steak was seasoned expertly, enhancing its natural flavors without overpowering them. Paired with a selection of sides that complemented the main dish beautifully, it was a satisfying and indulgent entrée. The ambiance of Le Rouge is warm and sophisticated, with attentive and friendly service that enhances the overall experience. The cocktail menu is equally impressive, offering a variety of creative and classic options that perfectly accompany the meal. Overall, Le Rouge - Bold Grill and Cocktails delivers a memorable dining experience, making it a must-visit for steak and seafood lovers alike.

First time when I've been there I wanted to have a nice coffee, but I ended up ordering a dessert as well. I was impressed of the chocolate cake, a good size portion, delicious and fresh. Then we've decided to have dinner as we thought it will be a pleasant experience. The tartar was very small compared to other high end restaurants (they consider themselves high end, probably because of the prices, but not quality), the main courses acceptable, not really balanced. It was time for the dessert, we were hoping the server will clean our table and prepare it for the dessert, it didn't happen. We got the salted caramel with pavlova (not pavlova at all, were just soft uncooked egg whites, yucky), the biscuit that was at this dessert tasted like fried onion, probably was baked in the same tray or it stayed in the fridge near onion and ofcourse the famous chocolate cake that I was impressed the first time, but we took it to go. Next day I opened the box and I was surprised to see that the slice of the cake was almost invisible:)))) Very thin slice. The sauce was not fresh at all and not tasting like coffee.

I found my new favorite spot for steak! The wait for our meal was longer than we expected, but perfection takes time, and it was well worth waiting for. The flavor of the steak, mashed potatoes, and carrots was like none other compared to other local restaurants and the crabcake appetizer was the freshest and tastiest that I have ever had. I was informed that the chef prepares them in house! Impressive!! Our server was very patient with us and very knowledgeable about any questions we had with regard to the menu. We ordered the bacon-wrapped filet mignon with mashed potato, and carrots which also comes with kale, but I declined due to a sensitivity. Also, the 7oz sirloin with said vegetables, scallops, and shrimp from the chef's specialties section of the menu. The atmosphere was also great! I found the lighting and decor were on point and well thought out, but I found the music seemed to be a little loud for the time of day, but that's only my personal preference and it was not unbearable. We are looking forward to our next visit, which will definitely be sooner than later!!
