Cha Baa Thai Restaurant (Bayer Lake) — Restaurant in Halifax

Disappointing. Huge lumps of black pepper in a meal I asked for with no black pepper. I used to think Cha Baa was the best Thai place in Halifax (and one of the best places I’ve eaten Thai food outside of Thailand), and usually order Pad See Ew. After having an excessive amount of black pepper in my noodles the last few times I’ve ordered from the North End location, I thought I’d try Bayers Lake and asked for no pepper. Unfortunately, when I got home I realised I had loads of black pepper on my noodles, lots of it basically unground (see photos). I called to complain and was told I could only be refunded if I drove back with the food, even though they accepted that they’d messed up the order (although are apparently unable to make any noodles without this excessive amount of black pepper - if I’d been told I simply wouldn’t have ordered). Not wanting to waste another half hour of my evening, I was left with a very disappointing meal. Been craving Thai for a while now, have not had it since moving to NS two years ago. Excellent service and pleasant atmosphere. Ordered a number of dishes. Fresh spring rolls were nice, but limited amount of fresh herbs (mint, basil) Mango salad wasn't really a salad - just large pieces of mango and one large chunk of red onion, barely any fresh herbs. Enjoyed the Eggplant Basil, I would up the amount of basil and sauce. Lemongrass chicken was flavorful but not esthetically pleasing - just looked like a heap of boiled chicken breast. Again, lacked fresh herbs. Pad Thai, nice flavor, loved the noodles, but the beef was a bit overcooked and chewy. Steamed jasmine rice was nice. Please spend less time on those beautiful garnishes and more time on those amazing fresh flavors Thai cuisine is famous for!!! Overall, good experience and yes, we will give it...

I'm very disappointed with how our bill was handled by the server several minutes after we paid the bill. After our bill was paid, the server returned to our table and requested another 1.03 saying that she had made a mistake on the bill. We gave her the 1.03 as she requested. However , upon returning home and carefully checking the bill, we realized that we didn't owe 1.03 for the meal. It seems that the server ripped us off for 1.03. Really, this is very shady. I will not be back to your restaurant. Warning customers, check your bill before leaving this shady...
