As much as the food is tasty I refuse to give The Orient one more cent as of today. I've been a regular customer (wkly/biwkly) since early 2018 spending a minimum of $70 each time (because you know they are pricey.) However, after speaking to one of the managers/owners today I will give my money to different establishment instead (down the street actually!) Here's a few of my reasons:
They don't keep the hours they state. They repeatly close early but you can see the staff inside having dinner during those same business hours (noted on their door) with the doors locked. With all the money I've spent never once have I received any complimentary item to maintain repeat business or to honor loyalty even after giving referrals. It's not a must but when you visit their competitors and they do, it makes you notice the ones that don't. Although they offer free delivery after 5pm until close over $30 within distace, after trying to do just that tonight I was told that I'd have to pick it up because they only have a driver for a few hours in the evenings. After having had enough of The Orient's inconveniences tonight I spoke to the manager /owner. She wasn't a good listener but loved to talk over you. I was told they close early regularly because of family emergencies...? LIES!! Again, we can see you eating collectively inside from the parking lot! What kind of emergency is that? 😂😂 Finally, before I disconnected the call due to frustration from her lack of listening skills or ability to take any responsibility for poor service she said "family is more important" and that she had other customers waiting on her... But when you were taking my money you made the time 🤔
Regardless if your food is decent, you don't get to disrespect me, show no loyalty towards your customers or take accountability where you lack and still receive my...
Read moreGrabbed some takeout from this place last night and it is probably my new favourite Chinese restaurant. The sweet n sour chicken is so delicious; the egg rolls are for sure the best I’ve ever had; and the Lion’s Head meatballs are ginormous and very tasty. The lady who answered the phone when I called to ask questions, (and then brought me my order when I arrived), was very pleasant, professional and helpful. I will be adding this place to my regular takeout rotation.

We were back for another amazing meal this weekend at The Orient. It’s my girlfriend’s favourite restaurant so I took her out for a birthday dinner and we were once again very impressed by how delicious everything is. The prices have gone up since our last visit but for a special occasion I still feel it is worth the cost. We tried a few new dishes like the Green Beans and the Chilli Chicken and of course we got a few egg rolls that are by far the best we’ve ever had. The Yang Chow rice and the Lions Head meatballs are some of our other favourite offerings. The total came to $155.25 after tax and before the tip so although it’s rather expensive, it was delicious and we had enough to take some home for breakfast! Can’t wait to go back for another...
Read moreWe were three couples coming for a special occasion. We heard great things and followed recommendations from reviews. We ordered 7 dishes. The server we had was attentive.Unfortunately, the food ranged from disappointing to poorly prepared. Reviewers said they "best egg rolls in Halifax" but they were overfried and mushy inside. The barbecued pork was hard and dry. The ginger chicken had not a hint of ginger. The sweet and sour chicken was okay but nothing great. The salt and pepper shrimp were breaded OVER top of unpeeled shrimp. They were properly cooked once you removed the skin and batter but lacked any flavour. One spicy beef dish was tasty but the other beef dish was not memorable. I had called ahead to advise them that one person had some food allergies. After explaining the situation with details, I was told that there were many options and our friend would have no issues ordering off the menu. In the end, the only thing our friend could eat was fried rice. Her dish came with only a very few, small shrimp. There was too much onion in every dish and few other vegetables other than a sparce amount of tiny slices of red and green pepper. Overall, very expensive and a total...
