My-oh-my has this place changed in the last 3 years. I did a lot of going back and forth on whether or not to post this review, however my inside voice said it needed to be posted. The experience went as follows. We arrived at Hap's hungry house for breakfast. There was no line up at the front doors, we went inside and were greeted politely. The greeter ask to see our vaccine passports and photo ID no problem there. We were seated no problem, the restaurant was a busy bustle, as it normally is. Our waitress Brie, arrived at the table. She took our drink orders and before we knew it or drinks had arrived at the table. A coffee, a decaf coffee, peppermint tea Etc. It was time to order, as most dining experiences the guests typically would have a few questions about the menu. Namely myself who is celiac. Brie, was very quick to answer we're not a gluten-free kitchen so I don't know how I can help you. I was taken aback by this because where I come from providing assistance in customer service comes very first and foremost. With the number of restaurants that are struggling through covid times one would think that customer service should be one of the pillars of importance for a restaurant. According to Brie this was not in her schedule to be courteous to her customers. She was far too busy to deal with these issues. She begrudgingly took the orders and brought the food out from the kitchen. The eggs benedict on gluten-free toast, cold and throughout the entire breakfast service not once was I asked if I could use more hot water for my tea. There is no question of how the food was, no follow-up on if we were enjoying their meals none of it. Overall here again the food was good, unfortunately this server cost the restaurant four customers that day because with the amount of choices available in todays consumer Marketplace I don't have time to deal with young people that choose not to display a shred customer service. If you don't like your job then find a new one.

I've come here a few times with my uncle and its one of our favorite hidden gems in Edmonton. Feels like a true home-cooked meal in a positive environment. The service is prompt and the staff are pleasant. Today, I had the half order of egg bennies with a side of salsa and home fries, and a full waffle with strawberries and whipped cream on the side. My uncle ordered the clubhouse with home fries. The food is absolutely delicious. The hollandaise sauce is probably one of the top 3 I've ever tasted, the waffle is my favorite go to from this location and I've tried many in the city and most won't compare. The clubhouse was soft, juicy, and "most flavourful" as he said, and the home fries are my uncles favorite. Last time we had the beef dip, which is stuffed full of meat on a delicious soft bread, and the western omelet and half order of waffle. Absolutely yummy and we will always be coming back to try new things. Thank you for the amazing service today.

I Used to practically live here in the early beginning 2000's. Hadn't been back here until today.... and it was marvelously magical. It hasn't changed a bit in the best possible way. Not even the "rooster-riffic" decor! Haps is the very definition of an original Edmonton institution. One of the last of the true authentic home style, old school Diners. And is a "MUST GO TO" Edmonton experience. The food has always been good quality, good value, and good portions. I highly recommend the hunger buster #2 (all bacon) and the apple pie (locally made) is simply stupendously superb. The service too, was far above and beyond anything you'd find at any franchise craphole. The waitress was amazing and super attentive. She was, quite frankly, one of the servers I have ever encountered in any establishment. A real pro. I forget her name or I'd give a shout out.

Horrible from start to finish. If I could give my experience at this Hap’s 0/5 stars I would. Put my name down for 3 people, waited about 15 min and noticed that people who came after us were being seated. Went to the front and saw that my name had been crossed off the list but we obviously weren’t seated. The owner (found out later he was the owner) was taking names so we confronted him about this and he just got flustered and confused. All we got was a short and disingenuous apology. After this we were seated shortly. Then we got the worst server possible, her name was Marilyn, absolutely terrible. She was super kind and friendly to every other table except ours. All we got was super short responses and a rude attitude. It looked even worse because all the other tables were predominantly white except ours so take that as it is, not sure what her problem was. She didn’t provide us with napkins or water. Then she brought the food for the table that was seated after us when we asked her how long our food was going to take she snapped at us and said “it’ll be out” with no explanation. At this point I asked for the manager because she was absolutely horrible. I am an understanding person especially when places are busy, but how come every other table got excellent customer service except ours? Just unacceptable. The manager was sweet and understanding, her apology was sincere. To the owner at the front taking names you really need to get better staff or train them better and possibly get some new training for yourself as well. Never coming back. Pro tip: skip this place and go to...

Okay!!! SO I've been a huge lover of Haps for 20 years. The last two times I have been in there were pretty lackluster (minus the food) and seriously left a bad taste for future visits. The second last time I went in at about 2pm. Our server was in a horrible mood slamming around cups and cutlery and such.. really just simply bitching about the fact that if any other customers came in she was going to be late for her second job. Understandable, things happen, we all have bad days...However, we were rushed through our already quick stop lunch with complaining and eye rolling. And last but not least her aggressively pulling their door sign down at 2:40pm. Okay so again bad days happen. Yesterday I went in for a nice breakfast, was sat down.. same server. I am not a grudge holder and AGAIN I get it.. she had a bad day. She was friendly but rushed in all aspects of service. I stepped outside to take a phone call only to come back in and overhear our server and assumed host scoffing and making totally ridiculous comments about my appearance.. which at first I giggled about it... mainly because I am very confident in myself as a person and my appearance (some people however are not though)... but then I'm sitting there wondering why I am paying for a meal and service(at a place I love) by people who have 0 moral standards or humility and enjoy making fun of the people that pay their bills. Anyone can pour a cup of coffee for minimum wage, but it doesn't cost anything to be a good person. Probably something the staff should have...
