Burger & Cafe Joy — Restaurant in Kamloops

I used to come here as a kid with my baachan and jiichan since we loved their food. Apparently they have new owners, I’m not sure exactly when it switched over but I hadn’t been their in years but decided to go there yesterday with my mom. We had to be somewhere but she was starving so we stopped in for some food to take to go. We were told it would be a 10 minute wait which was fine since we weren’t in too much of a rush so we were given our drinks and sat down to wait. After waiting around 10 minutes, the woman that was working the counter brought our food over and walked back over to the counter. I knew my mom was really hungry so I asked if she wanted to take a bite before we headed out so we started opening our containers and right away the woman came up to us and said, “You ordered it to go so you can’t sit here anymore, you have to leave because ‘he’ (gesturing to the back so we assume the cook/owner) just put it into these expensive containers and he gets really mad if you stay after he packaged it”. I told her we didn’t plan to stay and we were just taking a bite before we left but apparently that isn’t allowed although we had been sitting their drinking our drinks. I would understand if they needed the space for other customers, however we were the only two people in there. We also payed when we ordered which is standard there and I tipped them 20% which I regret after them being so rude. I also want to add that the packaging wasn’t anything fancy, it was standard paper to go containers and if the cost of those damages their business so much then they should just charge us for them. I have never written a bad review before but this situation was just so odd that I felt the need to put it out here. The food was good but I don’t want to deal with those guys again. I'm almost certain half the reviews are bogus, and paid for... because I was there today and I honestly don't know how they're still in business. My experience was negative, and non-existent... didn't even get to try the food because the only guy working wouldn't come and take my order. He was in and out if the kitchen, cleaning a table, didn't even acknowledge me, tell me he'd be right with me, or stop what he was doing to ask if I was ready (I clearly was) when the place was absolutely dead. Should have been the 1st sign something wasn't good here!! I gave him about 7 - 10 minutes to at least make eye contact, before getting up and walking out. I was waiting for Daniel Jewellers to finish something up for me, thought I would give this place a try, support small local business in a dead mall and I was very disappointed. One of the best kept secrets in Kamloops and it's a damned shame. I constantly tell people I know about Burger & Cafe Joy and they constantly remark how they never even knew of it's existence! Amazing food with top notch hospitality and service for a 'fast food' style restaurant. Hell, for any restaurant in this city. The menu is diverse and everything is amazing from the standard burgers, like the Double Teriyaki Burger (which is my favourite burger in all of creation!!) to the more adventurous burgers, like the Oyster Burger. There is even an amazing variety in their sides from standard fries with different dipping sauces, to takoyaki (personal favourite) to amazing spicy squid salad!
