Sahali Tongdak Korean Fried Chicken — Restaurant in Kamloops

We stumbled upon Sahali Tongdak Korean Fried Chicken while traveling through the area, and it turned out to be one of the best stops of our trip. From the moment we walked in, the owners welcomed us with such warmth and kindness—it felt like we were being invited into their home rather than just a restaurant.

The food itself? Absolutely incredible. We got 2 orders of crispy chicken (Angry sauce and OMC sauce- amazing!!!!), gimbap and japchaebob (spicy pork). The fried chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. The angry sauce is very spicy, and we were even given a sweeter sauce just in case it was too spicy 🥹. The food was amazing. Every bite was delicious and comforting after a long day on the road.

What really stood out, though, was the hospitality. The owner noticed we were traveling and, without hesitation, generously offered us two bottles of water and a can of Coca-Cola to take with us for the rest of our drive. It was such a thoughtful gesture that made us feel cared for in a way you don’t often find when you’re on the road.

After hours in the truck, this meal and interaction completely turned our day around. If you’re anywhere near here, do yourself a favor...

I really enjoyed this small, family-owned restaraunt. They make intensely flavourful food, which is a good addition to the neighbourhood (Kamloops is slowly increasing its collection of ethnic restaraunts). I had the tofu lunch special and I have to say, it was amazing tofu. The sauce was perfect. We also ordered the Jajangmyeon special with two chicken pieces (Tip: Remember to request the noodle option). The only two things that I feel could be improved upon is the quantity of vegan/vegetarian options and the portion sizes. I say this because, even though they were kind enough to swap out the two chicken pieces for one peice of tofu (totalling three squares of tofu), I feel the price did not adequately reflect the type of ingredients used in the meal. The portion sizes were quite small, even for the lunch special. I feel for the price of ten dollars plus tax (approximately) one should receive slightly more. Or, I would even accept the portion size if the price was lowered for the tofu special. I appreciate their willingness to accommodate my request to make the meal more vegetarian. We lucked out when we were searching for a place to eat right when we arrived in Kamloops, and found this place! It was August 16, 2023, when we came. Was searching on google for places to eat and found this gem of a find! It was in close proximity to our hotel, the bulgogi with rice combo was super delicious, also tried the k curry chicken on rice and it was also very good, also ordered some HBG chicken which came with fries and it was sooo yummy ! The best part of the experience were the owners! Sweetest and kindest couple! They were very personable and just had the nicest smiles!
