Blue Quill Chinese Food had been our go to place for about 10 years. Until about 2 -3 years ago, we felt the quality had just gone down hill. I’m sure alot of restaurants/business’s struggled back then. But pretty much every dish was just filled with onions and carrots and spouts, and small amounts of the actual item we’d order, and flavour wasn’t there either. We tried a couple times, but eventually stopped ordering from there unfortunately.
Well last night my kiddo begged for Chinese food, and since we haven’t found other places in the neighbourhood that we’ve loved either, I clicked on Blue Quill and started reading the reviews. It stated they've been under new management, and had some good experiences. We ordered, and I have to say I was so impressed and happy! Not alot of extra fillers, flavour was great, portion sizes were amazing . The chicken balls are GINORMOUS! With big pieces of chicken inside. Their sweet and sour sauce is the only one I actually like, more sweet then sour and the deep red color. Reminds me of the one that was served at a restaurant in BC that I used to work at.
I know in all those years, the original owners were absolutely sweet and hard working, I have no idea if they are still there, and just getting some help, but I’m truly happy to have my go to place back!
We ordered the Dinner for 2 combo with spring rolls. Subbed Pineapple Chicken Balls for just sweet and sour, and added an order of Shanghai Noodles (has Bbq pork-yumm) and received a free order of Deep...
Read more[UPDATED] Review #2 Got the food - finally - and it was alright. Generous portions to be sure. Here are the dishes: Chicken fried rice; very plain and bland, just chicken, rice with some peas thrown in. Garlic Spare ribs; quite fatty, they were ok BBQ Pork and veggie chow main. Pork was tasty, veggies were numerous and well done, the chow mein was a gooey mess. Atrocious noodles. Shrimp and vegetables; this was fine, but over-sauced. Chicken with ginger and green onion; one of the better dishes.
Overall, between the customer service, and the over-sauced food, this place warrants a 2/5 rating. I won't be back anytime soon. Certainly did not live up to its reputation. Well, let's call this review #1. Haven't tried the food yet. Ordered takeout: they said the food would be ready in 45 minutes, and it took 90 minutes. Yes, it's Mother's Day, but this place has been in business for years. For years. Know your busy times and when you're busy, have the decency to tell people it could be longer than usual. 90 minutes is ridiculous. And then to not offer a discount for the wait is just brutal. Extremely dissatisfied with the customer...
Read moreWe have ordered multiple times over the last 4 years but yesterday we find that the large dinners no longer have deep fried shrimp. When I inquired, I was outright lied to and told that they havent recently changed their menu. Which we in the house know is not true...the deep fried shrimp is a staple to our chinese food orders and we dont even order from somewhere unless they have them included in the big dinners. Then, as usual I say I will have the rice dish as my free item (order total is always over the 70 that is required for the free item) and am told that when ordering a dinner, the deal is so good already that I dont qualify for a free item. WHAT?!?!?! Never has this been said before. And neither does it say it on the menu as a condition. Needless to say they lost a customer that spends 100-200 every order. And i have many of their plastic trays used in delivery to prove we were regulars. This person who took the phone order lied, was horrible as far as customer service goes and unfortunately the business will lose one of many of...
