A&W Canada — Restaurant in Kawartha Lakes

Lindsay is where my wife and I stop to get gas and a coffee, or food and use the bathroom on our way down to Toronto. We sometimes stop into A&W for this purpose. Almost every time we go there, there's something weird going on, especially regarding the bathrooms. The first few times we went in, the bathrooms reeked of solvent. Then once I saw an employee exiting the bathroom with a mop and bucket and maybe 2 or 3 cups of filthy paint thinner, or other solvent in the bottom of the bucket. Solvents shouldn't be used for cleaning in confined spaces, especially for a food service environment. The next time I came in, there was a sign on the door saying the washrooms were out of order, only they weren't. I pushed open the unlocked door and went in. Everything was in working order. Today, blocking the hallway to the bathroom were 2 yellow signs indicating that the floor had recently been mopped (the floor was completely dry at this point) and a kitchen dish pan on the floor, directly in front of the washroom door. Why a dish pan would be there is beyond me. It's not sanitary. Anyway, I moved the dish pan out of the way of the door and as I was doing so, one of the employees came out of the washroom. He didn't pick up the dish pan on his way back. So, what's going on here? Seems like everyone is too lazy to clean the bathroom properly, which is strange because it only has one toilet, one urinal and one sink. And/or the staff want to discourage patrons from using the bathrooms, while continuing to use them themselves. That's pretty inconvenient, Lindsay being a kind of travel hub, where people are often passing through on their way somewhere. On top of that, the service is bad. That's another story I won't even get into. Seems like they need someone in a position of authority to teach and enforce the SOPs of a food...

I don't go to A&W often but my son wanted to go there for lunch. We went in around 11:30am and it wasn't very busy. During the ordering process, a man who was probably the manager, asked the girl taking our order to go to the next till over. I have no idea why he didn't go to that till himself and when he took over, he started to ask all the same questions the previous girl did. We kept telling him "she already got that information" so it was really awkward. The other really annoying thing was the menu board kept changing too quickly so it was hard to pick an item. When we sat down, our table was dirty and sticky. I looked around for another table, but they all looked dirty. For the entire time we ate, no one cleaned tables. Some of the food was quite good. Their new chicken nuggets are very good. The biggest let down was the onion rings; they were absolutely unsalted and were very bland which was a huge let down. Alisha served my mother & I today, she was an absolute pleasure! My mom loves the A&W root beer, unfortunately the pop machine was down, it happens no big deal, however I was positive mom would want to leave to go somewhere else….. Alisha was able to help my mom decided to try the “frozen” root beer instead…. It was a hit, I had to taste it myself since mom was enjoying it sooo much lol. I must say it’s delicious and we’ll be back for another, more food as well as it too was delicious, fresh, fast and nice and hot! Please reach out to this amazing young staff of yours and let her know the kind of employee she is and how it helps the restaurant too do well and helps the customers enjoy their experience kk.
