Sunset Grill — Restaurant in Kitchener

Pretty disappointedwith my experience at Sunset grill. Had been 5 or 6 years since I had last eaten there, primarily for same issues I experienced yesterday. They are open early and only place open so I gave them a shot. Never again.

Starting with my daughters kids waffle, or half waffle. It was advertized as a 1/2 waffle for kids, but it was tiny. I then got advertized 3 toppings "deal" for an additional $7, with a kids drink. This was $20! 2 small cups of fruit, one blueberries and one strawberries, and whipped cream. The wipped cream was from a can, which quickly turned into a watery mess. For $20 it should have been a full waffle and real whipped cream. Couldn't imagine paying the almost $8 for the base kids waffle for what we got.

My breakfast was a Benedict. It was gross. Biggest issue was the just put eggs and hollandaise on an untoasted english muffin. After about two minutes it was a soggy disaster.

Got the bill, $45 for myself and my 7 year old. 1/2 waffle with some fruit, soggy eggs benedict, coffee and kids drink. I never take a poor dining experience out on server or staff, so I still tip. Came to over $50, brutal. I never post reviews, I usually believe in letting the market adjust itself, if a restaurant is poor it likely wont last and I just dont go back. My husband and I took our two kiddos (10 months and 3 years) for breakfast today. This was our second time there. Our first visit was back when our daughter was a newborn and our son was 2. We had such a great experience the first time we said "let's make this a weekly tradition!". Well, that might have been a bit unrealistic with the little ones and we ordered delivery for 9 months whenever we wanted a breakfast treat. This morning we finally got back for an in-person meal and it was another incredible experience. Our server (I think Joe?) was so attentive, upbeat, friendly, and great with the kids. He was always one step ahead of us, getting a highchair ready, overhearing my son talking about spiderman and bringing over a spiderman colouring page. He didn't miss a beat, staying on top of our order while chatting with my son about superheroes. We don't often go out to eat because littles can be so unpredictable, but we felt so welcome and comfortable there. The staff really make the difference! You can tell they enjoy their jobs. Our server, Jon, was absolutely wonderful! We he came to take our drinks order and was happy to take our food order right away when we mentioned we were a little tight on time. The food arrived very quickly, and was everything you’d hope for a breakfast diner.

When our food arrived there was a confusion with the order (our confusion, not theirs) and it was the server who brought the food that explained. We had ordered what we thought was a smoked salmon bagel but it was a smoked salmon plate with a bagel on the side on a different plate. The server brought the three main plates out and was bringing the bagel in a separate trip so there was a moment of confusion around what exactly we ordered. We were very happy with the bagel salmon dish. Jon came by shortly after to confirm everything was okay because he heard there was a confusion.

Even when the restaurant got busier just before we left Jon was still serving with a smile on his face.
