I stopped in at the Victoria Street Market this morning to grab a few sandwiches, but I was so disgusted by the service and food handling that I walked out empty-handed. The experience started off with the kind of inattentive attitude that’s unfortunately become all too common. I asked the young woman behind the counter if she was okay, only to be met with a tired, “Yeah, it’s just early and we just opened,” before she slumped over to the deli with a disinterested “What duhywant?”
When I asked for beerwurst, she literally flung it through the air and onto the dirty scale, without even bothering to put down a paper or anything sanitary. The scale was visibly smudged and fingerprinted—leftover grime from the day before, I guess. When I pointed this out, she just rolled her eyes and said, “Oh ya, I usually put it on paper, but it’s early.” Excuse me—I’m supposed to eat that!
Over at the sandwich station, things were even worse. The tomato still had its stock attached, and she shoved aside a dirty hand vacuum from the counter without wiping it down. She then slapped the bread right where the vacuum had been and put the tomato, stalk and all, into the sandwich.
I was so furious and speechless at this point that I asked to speak to the owner. Another young man came out, first claiming to be the owner, then admitting he was actually the manager. He had the same attitude as the first employee—no apology, no attempt to fix the situation—just more excuses about how “it’s early and we just opened.”
I’ve never been so disappointed or disgusted by a food service experience. If this is how the Victoria Street Market treats its customers and handles its food, I won’t be back. I wouldn’t recommend...
Read morePlease guys save your hard earned money for quality food purchases, Their food is overpriced only not fresh as it looks, the way they display their food and deli, make it look like fresh, as they just made everything the same day but that’s not true, their food is never fresh, specially salads and desserts, I had a good experience at my first visit but when I went there second time for my three grain salad, they gave me expired salad that was made like more than a week ago, I came home not knowing that and when I had a bite, it was bitter and smelled so bad, I did ended up returning it and got my refund and thought like okay things happen, and gave this store another try today, this time I bought Tiramisu dessert (a whole cake), I was so happy and excited, bought some chocolates and flowers too for my husband, as soon as I came home I opened the box and INSTANT REGRETS, saw fungus on the Cake 🤓🤓 I was so shocked to see that on the cake and I am so glad that I bought a whole cake not just a piece, otherwise I would have eaten it and could get a food poisoning from it. I AM SO THANKFUL TO MY OPEN EYES LOLL. But please guys spend your money wisely, and honestly I don’t care about how expensive the food is, as long as I am getting fresh food, that’s what matters. I have always believed in quality over quantity but if you are compromising your quality then No sir, I am not even paying you a penny. Rest on you all, I am attaching pictures of tiramisu cake too from today. Highlighted...
Read moreOn Saturday I drove from other side of Kitchener. Got there at closing. Gentlemen, working the cash told me they were closed and I’d have to come back another day. I told him I came from a bit of a distance and urgently needed a specific ingredient for my dinner party that night, and is there any way I could quickly grab it. With a TON of hesitation, he was not happy but allowed me to run in and grab it. I was going to be fast and plus he was still checking somebody out ant cash. Another gentleman working, came right over and offered my service to get me what I needed to quickly and was very nice. I went to the checkout to pay and thanked the original gentleman. I spent $50+ in two mins. It was just about to leave and the original gentleman said to another worker loudly that he’s going to lock the door so that he doesn’t get guilt tripped again. I thought that was so ignorant. I can hear you! I’m standing right there still! At least wait until I am outside before you say that. I hope your boss reads this and speaks to you because this is terrible. What happened to good customer service?? I spend a lot of money at your store every year and we even get catering. Now I am completely turned...
