What a wonderful find! After a cold and rainy day exploring the Lusk caves, we were feeling like some warm soup. Desperate to find a decent place that wasn’t part of a chain or a chip truck, we picked the first place that popped up in Maps. Wow, did we ever get lucky. At first we were too sure if they were actually open but when we got inside, we were immediately impressed by the warm atmosphere. The lovely staff came by and we had a chat about what soups they offered. We jumped on the salmon chowder with fresh biscuits. I’m from the maritimes and have a high bar to meet for chowder and wow did they ever surpass it. I’ve never tasted a soup so flavourful! The biscuits were extremely fresh and the soup was perfect. We still talk about the meal to this day. We’ve been back several times and even though they circulate the menu and offer different soups, we haven’t had a bad one yet. Even the sandwiches are amazing. We recommend this caffe to all our friends and hear great reviews. Take the time to stop here, you’ll regret...
Read moreChose this restaurant on September 5, 2019. Asked for a menu, there was none just the one meal being offered which was rib eye steak, scalloped potatoes and ceaser salad. Thought not having a menu was a bit strange for a restaurant but decided to give the steak dinner a try. Both steaks were served and neither my wife or I could chew through what was probably the toughest steaks we've ever tried to eat. The scalloped potatoes were ok as was the salad. As disappointing was the ambivalence of the wait staff who when picking up our uneaten steaks pretty well shrugged their shoulders when we brought the poor quality to their attention, no compensation, no comment, whatever.. At least our experience that night didn't live up to the reviews we've read about this restaurant. In fact, after being there, I question how many reviewers have actually been to this place. It's the local watering hole, good for cheap drinks,...
Read moreWell only our favourite place in Wakefield now, thank you very much! My boyfriend and I took a trip to Wakefield on Saturday about a half hour from my cottage and took our time checking out shops, and thankfully chose to stop here for a pint(s) and a nacho.
The waitress (and owner if I recall correctly) was down a server and working alone on a busy sunny Saturday afternoon. She was pleasant and friendly and had a great sense of humour. We both had a Boreale north east IPA and shared a nacho, perfect combo.. the nachos were not your average, they were way better!
Shortly before the major storm hit, we managed to also meet some great people and hung out longer than expected. We had great service, great food, great beer, and all around great time even after the storm hit when we huddled inside, (with no power!)
Thank you thank you and we will be back, especially to try your famous caesar that's all...
