Delicious soap dumpling (Xiao Long Bao) and Pot Stickers (Guo Tie) in Rive Sud
We had been to their St-Jean store previously and really enjoyed their authentic soup dumplings, and was really excited to find out that they opened a new restaurant in Rive Sud!
They did not disappoint! We arrived in between meals, but staff was quick and courteous, gave us her honest opinion (too much food to order). They make everything onsite and the food was made to order, so it take a bit of time, particularly the pot stickers, but it’s very fresh and definitely worth the wait.
The taste of soup dumplings was not exactly what I had in mind, still delicious but perhaps lacks a bit of umami. The sweet pork soap dumplings were way too sweet, sugar should be added as a flavour enhancer but never dominating the taste in soap dumpling. Some of the dumplings are also stuck together causing the soap to leak out. My heart was aching when that happened! There was a card on each table to explain how to eat soap dumplings which I find quite considerate. Absolutely LOVED the iced Sour Plum Juice, very authentic, tasted just like what I had in Beijing when I was a little girl. My daughter also enjoyed lychee bubble tea.
All in all it was a good dining experience, would recommend to family...
Read moreAuthentic Xiao Long Bao. They make the food as you order which is why it might take a bit of time, but the food is worthwhile. This classic soup dumpling is well flavoured, the insides have lots of soup and they have a bunch of varieties to try. Each order are sold in bundles of 10 for around 10$ which comes back to 1$ for 1. For something filling like Xiao Long Bao, it's not that expensive. If the skin was a bit thinner, the dish would have been even more amazing for me. I would definitely like to go back and try more of their items in their menu.
On another occasion, the prices increased a bit but the quality was still as good for the Xiao Long Baos. I tried their Peach Green Tea bubble tea and it ended up being a bit too diluted. It didn't taste that great. The Teriyaki Beef was also lacking a bit in terms of flavours. It tasted more like a soya stir fry than teriyaki. Still, it was a decent portion and decent meal overall. Eating at the restaurant was definitely a different experience. The atmosphere is enjoyable but there is loud beeping that comes from the kitchen every few minutes which is a...
Read moreThis is a small restaurant located inside a mall, and it’s a bit hard to spot from the outside. Once inside, you’ll notice the clean and well-maintained interior. The space feels simple but cozy, and I was especially impressed by how clean the washroom was — a small detail that makes a big difference.
The service was excellent. The waitress was friendly, warm, and took the time to chat with me. I really appreciated her positive attitude. She recommended some of their signature dishes, which turned out to be great choices. I was initially worried that I had ordered too much food, but she assured me it would be fine — and she was right! The portions were just right and left me feeling satisfied, not overstuffed.
As for the food, it was very good. While it’s not authentic Shanghai cuisine, it features a variety of dishes that you would commonly find in China. The flavors were spot-on, the ingredients tasted fresh, and everything was cooked to perfection. There’s honestly nothing to complain about.
Overall, it was a great experience. Tasty food, clean environment, and attentive service — I’ll...
