Mmmm... Fish N' Chips! I had an itch for it and Le Chalutier provided relief!
The establishment is deceivingly huge and can sit well over 150 patrons in several diving areas found within. The resto is well kept, clean with comfortable seating. I did note that the majority of the patrons are 60+ and it was 70% full during lunch.... on a Thursday! Take that for what its worth.
I went with their "table d'hote" which consisted of a soup of the day, 1 fish filet, a side-order of my choice and some coleslaw. A filtered coffee and choice of dessert rounded out the dining experience.
For $17 I got to enjoy :
Broccoli cream soup : Very good but desperately needed salt though. I guess that's normal as the typical patron here doesn't want too much salt in their food. Not the best broccoli cream of soup I've had but a solid start!
Fish filet : First of all, this single filet was HUGE! Could have easily been 2 or 3 pieces. The tartar sauce was perfect. Came here for my fish and it was delivered. So yummy!
Greek Potatoes : I opted for the Greek potatoes (there were 5+ options) and sprinkled some lemon on it and it was sublime. Is this a Greek resto? Because these potatoes were out of this world good!
Coleslaw : I really like coleslaw and they delivered. Good not great though.
Filtered coffee and pudding chomeur : All desserts are prepared in-house (Awesome!) and the selection available number close to 10. I opted for the pudding chomeur and it was good however I felt it was a tad small and I would have preferred if it was heated with perhaps the option to upgrade it "a la mode" for some hot and cold action in my mouth.
All in all, the "table d'hote" was good and well worth another re-visit in a few weeks time.
The service was quick and I felt they understood that patrons did come here for lunch and to wrap it up within an hour of our visit. They don't rush you but they definitely can accommodate. Our waitress was very friendly and efficient.
I definitely recommend "Le Chalutier" and hope future visits will bump this 4 star...
Read moreWe were a party of 4, this was the first time at this restaurant we had heard about it and how good it was ! We were not disappointed it was excellent. Depending what time you arrive you can expect a bit of a waiting time, who cares weâre not eating at MacDonaldâs, this to me is a good sign when the place is full this usually means the quality of the food is great. We ordered the pea soup and crĂšme of asperagus which was very tasty, fresh and hearty, then came the fish and chips, WOW, fresh fish with the right amount of batter fried just perfectly along with the French fries and / or mashed potatoes, cole slaw tartar sauce and lemon, the complete package came together, everyone enjoyed there meal along with 2 bottles of wine which by the way is sold at a very reasonable price of SAQ + ( Kim Crawford at $26.95 & Ruffino Pinot Grigio at 23,95) Do the math, reasonably priced. Then comes the dessert, I was impressed with the list of desserts on the menu, i canât remember them all and was told by the waiter everything was home made We had the last 2 lemon meringue pie which was 4-5 inches thick which was fantastic + a fresh cup of coffee completed our Meal. The service was excellent, the establishment is very clean and orderly everything in there place, very simple decor with a cosy atmosphere. One thing for sure I will be going back to try more of there fish plates, what I observed being served to the other clients was very appealing to look at from a distance. Definitely I will post again next...
Read moreWeâre on a mission to find the best fish and chip place around town. For context we are bench marking against the Fish Shack in Lunenburg NS which I consider a 10/10. So far this does not disappoint with a strong 8.5 to 9 out of 10. The portions are large, but not greasy. Take the double, you wonât regret it. Since it was our first time, my partner took two and I took one⊠yes I stole 1/2 of his second ;) and absolutely will be taking the double next time. The fries are standard size, home made and crispy. The cole slaw, on point! Tartar sauce was sweeter than expected (still very good- not knocking it) and really enjoyed the dill sauce (not as sweet and very âdillyâ). We did not try the deserts, maybe next time. Note the place doesnât look like much, but donât be put off by the location or aesthetics. The food is an epicureanâs dream. Service was really good also, we were greeted and sat right away, namely because we went for lunch on a Saturday. They donât take reservations, so if youâre going during peak hours there will most likely be a long wait⊠totally worth it.
FYI not much choice on the menu which IMHO is a good thing, didnât see any veg options aside from soup and salad (but thatâs not why weâre...
