See me English, an American franchise restaurant, playing country and western music in the background and having a great franchise. Developed environment of bar and booths and two sides of it. One closest to the bar and the other one full dining only. No bar as a featured ambience. One table near us had the most amazing giant container full of beer so when they ordered a picture they actually got one with a spout in a great design factor . Rubs I guess refers to the fact that you rub your spices onto your barbecued meat. My buddy ordered the bavette which was done rare to medium rare and he said it was good and he's an extra restaurant owner so that's a thumbs up. I ordered the cheaper combo for the lunch which was the pork chops. Now I do know that when you order a large chicken breast and the waiter tells you it's the best value for the money, it's a reconstituted, giant chicken breast and even Costco sells those things in the frozen section. Consistent texture of me throughout looking like a chicken breast but it's made up of mushed up stuff and reconstituted and reformatted into a chicken breast. Looking thing. Well this is the first time that the pork chop kind of looked like that except it had bones so I couldn't figure that one out but it was thick and very spongy. My restaurant buddy said maybe they boiled it in water first or in something... Was bouncy and spongy but the bone was blackened and there was a crisscross blacken pattern on both sides. He said they cooked it in boiling whatever water? And then they seared it on top of the grill. But the bone was all very blackened so go figure who knows how they did it. Spongy thick bouncy very chewy entirely consistent throughout the whole pork chop except for the bone kind of meat was certainly real. Strange stuff. But it was like possible and so were the fries were like McCain's from Frozen or something like that. The service was great. Our waitress was wonderful and the room at the booth we had had lots of room and it was a comfortable environment. It was one of the three restaurants or four? In a row at this little mall strip exterior mall and it was the least offensive one from the outside and the most attractive on the inside. The pricing was reasonable and one of the best features strangely enough, especially when they offered us. Would you like more napkins? And they brought a pile of white stuff and these napkins though not linen actually felt like linen and they were amazing. I took a few home and they're giant. You could cover your entire lap so you don't get spashed with whatever barbecue? And they're luxurious, thick giant size napkins. Best feature of the place other than the overall ambiance. The food was okay. My buddy's better than mine as I never experienced a chop or this case. A pork chop anything like this. Not even Costco's thick pork chops feel spongy or consistent every inch of the meat was 1...
Read moreAfter looking at reviews, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to give this place a chance. Friends recently went and told my husband and I it was great. We went this Saturday, and after our experience, it’s clear people don’t realize they’re having authentic bbq in a family run restaurant.
First, people complaining about prices when going to eat fresh meat smoked in house is a bit ridiculous. Have you people not been to a grocery store lately? A restaurant obviously can’t run by charging at cost prices. It’s as if they were expecting fast food prices.
Second, we will say the place is looking like it needs updating with renovations, but not to the extent of dramatics people are writing. I’ve been to massive chain restaurants like Baton Rouge or La cage with booth seats that are totally destroyed and taped. I think the influx of big establishments being recently renovated (like Houston’s) or newly built, is making people forget what an authentic non corporate restaurant looks like. Have you ever seen the restaurants that Guy Fieri goes to? The ones that are actually small businesses making things from scratch, well that’s what this place is.
Which leads me to the best parts, the food and the staff. We ordered pork rolls, the brisket plate and a burger plate. All three were amazing. You could taste the smoked flavour, not too strong, just right. This isn’t no fake liquid smoke pulled pork or sauces. Anyone who’s previously smoked their own food or has gone to the states can tell from the colour and flavour of the meats. Bonus, right when you walk in, you see the huge smoker, which we saw being filled with seasoned meats. The pink tint of a burger is part of smoking it, and not only was it delicious and juicy, but the homemade bbq sauce and chipotle mayo with it was addictive. The brisket was on the leaner end, which I prefer, and just like smoked meat, you could either choose a leaner and slightly tougher piece, or a fatty and more tender piece. It’s BEEF, just like how a steak would be more or less tender from how plump the cow was. I prefer the less fatty flavour of a lean cut and it was incredible! Staff was always coming around to check if we were happy and answer our questions, and from what we understood the wait staff has been there for years, so they know their menu really well.
All in all, our friends were right, and we will definitely be...
Read moreRubs, I am not one to be extremely difficult, however I was accompanied by a very simple eater. We both left unsatisfied by you. We ordered the following: Appetizers - Smoked mac and cheese, Jalapeno peppers, Fried battered wings Main -Brisket sandwich with coleslaw and spicy fries, Deep fried ribs and a side of poutine Drinks- Pitcher Rubs lemonade (I think) and 2 shots Our waiter Phil was a gem. Our appetizers came relatively fast, I am not going to lie everything looked so delish, but once I took a bite of a wing it was just completely tasteless. It was fried to perfection, but sadly bland . The mac and cheese cheesy top was yummy, but the more I ate, it lacked of that special taste I expected. I mean I’ve had, and tasted way better than this. I didn’t make a big fuss because maybe it was just a question of personal taste. The Jalapeno peppers were okay, since they were wrapped in bacon then fried in batter, the bacon was a bit undercooked. I only ate 1 as I couldn’t stand the sweet after taste that came after. I asked our waiter to put the rest in a take away box. The main took more than 50 minutes to come, totally ridiculous. We waited so long that we were not too eager to eat. Yes the waiter came and apologized by saying that they had many big groups. I understood but it was a long wait. We arrived around 8PM and our main arrived at 10:20ish NOT OKAY.People that were seating next to us ordered after and received their meals why did we have to wait????? Our mains were way better, the brisket sandwich was sooooo good. The spicy fries were not spicy at all, but had great potential. Overall for me my main course was a winner. As for my company he loved his meal too, everything was to his liking. We were both full so most of our mains were brought home. As for the lemonade it was okay, not a big fan , but since it was not all about me I had to choose something we could both enjoy! To me it was not worth 30$ Our bill was over 124$ (rough estimation) Verdict – My appetizers were not the greatest, but the mains were delish. The wait time tarnished my experience. They could have at least offered something for the inconvenience. Yes I would go again, I do want to try other items and give them...
