WE VISITED BLOWERS AND GRAFTON FOR DINNER AND ORDERED A CHICKEN WRAP. SINCE WE DON’T EAT PORK, BACON, OR BEEF, WE SPECIFICALLY ASKED FOR THE BACON TO BE LEFT OUT. THE SERVER SAID “FINE,” BUT THE WRAP WAS STILL SERVED WITH BACON, AND WE HAD ALREADY EATEN ABOUT 30% BEFORE NOTICING.
IT SEEMED CLEAR THE KITCHEN WAS NEVER INFORMED OF OUR REQUEST, WHICH WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING. WHEN I POLITELY POINTED IT OUT, THE SERVER REPLIED IN A RATHER INTIMIDATING TONE, SAYING “MISTAKES HAPPEN AND NO ONE DOES IT INTENTIONALLY.” THAT RESPONSE FELT DISMISSIVE AND RUDE, INSTEAD OF UNDERSTANDING THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE SITUATION.
THE RESTAURANT WASN’T BUSY AT THE TIME, SO THIS DIDN’T FEEL LIKE A KITCHEN ERROR UNDER PRESSURE, BUT MORE LIKE A LACK OF ATTENTION WHEN TAKING THE ORDER. I COULDN’T HELP BUT WONDER WHETHER WE WERE BEING TREATED DIFFERENTLY BECAUSE OF OUR RACE/COLOUR, OR IF THE SERVER WAS SIMPLY HAVING A BAD DAY. EITHER WAY, THE SERVICE FELT LETHARGIC AND UNINTERESTED RIGHT FROM THE START—NO SMILE, NO CHARM—AND THE MISTAKE RUINED WHAT WE HOPED WOULD BE A NICE SUNDAY DINNER.
FOR PEOPLE WITH RELIGIOUS RESTRICTIONS, EATING PORK ISN’T JUST A PREFERENCE, IT’S A SERIOUS MATTER. THAT’S WHY BEING ATTENTIVE AND RESPECTFUL IN SUCH CASES IS SO IMPORTANT. HONESTLY, THIS WAS MY FIRST VISIT AND IT WILL ALSO BE MY LAST—I DON’T THINK I WOULD COME AGAIN.
THAT SAID, I DON’T THINK THE MISTAKE WAS INTENTIONAL. EVERYONE CAN HAVE AN OFF DAY, AND MAYBE THIS WAS ONE OF HIS. I JUST HOPE THAT IN THE FUTURE, MORE CARE AND EQUAL TREATMENT CAN BE SHOWN TO EVERY GUEST, REGARDLESS OF BACKGROUND. WE DIDN’T CREATE ANY RUCKUS LEFT QUIETLY WONDERING WHAT’S WENT WRONG. HONESTLY IF THE SERVER HAD ASSURED ME IN A DIFFERENT APPROACH OR MANNER IT WAS A TOTALLY A DIFFERENT THING, I REALLY ACCEPT MISTAKES DOES HAPPEN BUT THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO RESPOND. AGAIN NOT TRYING TO BE HARSH ON ANYONE BUT JUST GETTING THINGS OUT FROM MY HEART.
MY FIRST EXPERIENCE WOULD BE MY LAST TOO. SORRY TO LEAVE THIS REVIEW BUT IT WAS TOUGH ON US TOO.. SORRY BROTHER IF YOU ARE...
Read moreUpdate September 21, 2023: we were invited back to try things out again and I have to say they blew my socks off! 5 stars across the board! We tried the donair nachos and they were sweet, salty, and so crunchy. I would order those again. I had the shrimp Po boy sandwich with the seafood chowder. The chowder was so creamy and full of seafood, it would have been perfect with a slice of garlic bread. The sandwich had some huge breaded shrimp in it with lettuce and tomatos. The sauce and bun were so good. We finished our meal with the honey cake with sticky toffee rum sauce, it was incredible! I wish it was a permanent item. I really feel like giving this place a second change was the right decision . The menu had some really great things on it and I already have ideas of what I want to try next time I'm here. The cocktail menu was pretty amazing too! Recommend ? Yes! Original post: Sadly disappointed with this restaurant. We came in on a Friday evening and were seated quickly without a reservation. They have happy hour until 6pm which was fantastic and some great things to choose from on the happy hour menu. The service was good but not great. Our server didn't seem to know the drink menu well and even though I was clearly ordering from the happy hour menu she ordered us something off the regular menu and we had to pay the higher price. The fish and chips were amazing! The haddock was thick and meaty with a fresh flavor. The lobster rolls were a huge disappointment. Super basic and almost tasteless. The lobster was water and bland. I was expecting it to be mixed with something to enhance the flavor but it was literally basic coleslaw with watery lobster. The garlic bread and deep-fried pepperoni were good. There seemed to be a lot of staff but we didn't get much attention from our server. I will be back to try the seafood chowder but I do not recommend the...
Read moreEdited to add: I don’t work here any longer but definitely recommend the food! — Incredible. It was extremely busy even though it was a Monday. There were two members on the floor but they took care of service, food, and although the wait was a tad longer than usual, when the food arrived?
Well worth the wait.
We ordered fish and chips, a burger and a lobster with artichoke dip.
Amazing doesn’t describe the on location made cuisine that’s cooked to order. Dripping in sauce and great meat with a sesame seed bun? I nearly cried.
My associate had the fish and chips; flaky, hot, and incredibly crispy.
The other highlight? The manager from the Edmonton Location, who was taking care of seating, running orders, drinks and cashing out.
Jared was incredible. He was friendly, professional, made on the spot decisions best for his clients, and it made a world of difference; changing what could’ve been a mediocre long wait into one that was unnoticeable.
The lobster artichoke dip? I’m back again, today. That’s how incredible it is!!! EDITED TO ADD: Second visit in 6 days!
The food was even better, if that’s possible. Crispy cheese fried donair quesadillas and I got the Philly cheesesteak and crispy fries. Incredible…. Oozing taste without that added grease that finds it way onto most sandwiches, I’m dreaming of it again, They have incredible staff on board, and are a true taste of real Canadian hospitality.
Third visit is already on schedule! Note: if you like a bit of cool drinks to go down, they have a breathtaking margarita, made with chili, a refreshing lime shot that’s cooling, and mouthwatering beer on tap. I went for the hazy IPA.
