I had heard how good the food is here at La Shop and ventured over for lunch one early afternoon. At 13:45 and we were told only take out was possible because they close at 14:00. OK, surprising that we couldn't sit and order with 15 minutes before closing but alright strick policy is a rule (as I then found out). We, of course, ordered to go. I am allergic to dairy and EVERY but EVERY sandwich on the menu has cheese in it and while they assemble each sandwich upon ordering - they REFUSED to accommodate me by simply not putting cheese in a (any) sandwich. Insisting that it was the restaurant policy to NOT make any modifications to anything on the menu. I've never faced such intolerance in any restaurant, ever. I was shocked at the server's insistence that they just would not take my order. So be it. If you have any special needs DON"T GO TO LA SHOP. However, we ordered a breakfast item and it was delicious!! Now I see my receipt is from the neighbouring RESTAURANT FONDISSIMO, hopefully they don't adhere to the same strict (anti-client...
Read moreOn a drive into Magog we spotted LA SHOP in an older industrial area just east of the main shopping district (but on the same main street Rte. 108). In adventure mode, we quickly stopped and took a quick peek inside and were pleasantly surprised but what greeted us. A re-furbished red brick industrial work space transformed into a large, well light coffee shop and causal eatery.
The main focus is on unique types of grilled cheese sandwiches (see chalkboard photos of offerings) as well as some inspired breakfast ideas. We order LA POMME (a grilled brie cheese sandwich on brioche egg brads, nuts and caramelized apples....very good), and LE VEGE (a mozza, goat cheese mushroom, zucchini, etc veggie sandwich...also excellent).
There are also, as you'd expect, a ton of coffee options. The only downside was that service was a bit slow (albeit very friendly). In their defense the restaurant was quite busy and there were only two wait staff servicing the tables and making the...
Read moreSo, I’m sorry to have to write this review but there is someone at the restaurant who is not an upstanding person. We were here last month. Food was fine, service was fine and the atmosphere was great. We explored the city for the day after eating then returned to Vermont where we were vacationing for the week. When we arrived home to our VT place, we realized our kids had both left their jackets at the restaurant. It was too far to go back so we thought we’d call and see if they would drop them in the mail at our expense, of course. The woman agreed and took our credit card info. We then waited and the jackets never showed up despite the manager telling us she would send them. We called and emailed to no avail. They would not answer any correspondence. I’m guessing they kept the coats as they were pretty nice. Other than this experience, we love Magog and look forward to going back. Please consider this story when deciding to give La Shop...
