I was googling to find what cafe is near our house and A Corner was a choice that pops up and after reading some reviews, decided to give it a try with my family.
I honestly thought all units in this plaza is small until I walked into this cafe to realize it has decent space. We came here at around 2:30 PM so we luck out with our own table and booth. I noticed on our table there was a sign that said "we can't accommodate to change seats/tables for you", it's a bit of an unusual message but as I looked at the long cafeteria-like table beside us, I could understand why some patrons may first sat at the communal looking table and later wanted to switch to a booth as it's more private and have your own space. I sure don't want to sit at the communal table with my gf if I want to share a convo, I think that's the only layout drawback here.
Coffee was nice and hot which we prefer, however, it was a bit unusual that server didn't ask us how we like our coffee, whether if we need cream/milk, so we thought she would bring them upon when coffee is being served. Nope, cream/milk never came so we had to flag down another staff for it. Not a big deal but I would think it's a very common question for a server to probe how we like our coffee. On a side note, I did appreciate a bottle of water to serve to us by default, which was a nice touch as I drink lots of water.
We ordered a matcha ice cream with red bean waffles. Waffles were nice and fresh and the stacking of the waffles was photogenic for social media.
I ordered a shrimp with mushroom pasta with cream sauce, that was tasty and they gave a good number of shrimps and the sauce was just on-point, not too much and not too little.
Price are reasonable and good portion. I would come back but fingers crossed that we continue to get an individual table or booth. I can't stand those communal long bench...
Read moreI was actually very excited to try out this cafe as I've seen some foodies visit before. We came around 2:30pm on a Sunday and was promptly seated down right away as the restaurant was not as busy that time. Their menu offered a selection items from brunch (8am-4pm), rice bowls, all day, desserts etc etc.
We ordered the Smoked Salmon Benny & Chicken Bowl which came rather quickly (I'd say less than 10 mins?). I was quite happy because I was really hungry LOL. Smoked Salmon Benny ($15): It was cooked to perfection as the yolk just exploded and drizzled all over the smoked salmon and the toast. The smoked salmon complimented well with the yolk and the avocado spread that was inside. My only complaint was that the toast was just a tad bit hard to cut (but could be the knife that wasn't sharp enough). I love how it came with a side of fries and salad (for the best of both worlds LOL). The size was pretty big overall as I wouldn't have been able to finish it all. Chicken Bowl ($14): It was basically a bowl of rice with super crispy chicken, corn, cucumber, seaweed, and with a poached egg on top. The egg was cooked to perfection as the yolk exploded all over the rice. The chicken was really crispy but juicy at the same time. The spicy mayo complimented the dish well as everything tasted great together. Size of it was pretty fair for the price you're paying, as well as the number of ingredients that comes with it.
The service overall was good as our server was very attentive when we needed to order something, and she did inform us that they didn't have the specific sauce for the egg Benny's.
Definitely will come back on the future for their pancakes too!
TIP: They also offer free wifi...
Read moreDisappointed of the overall service, came here based on word of mouth. Highly not recommended.
Server are not trained properly, when you serve a coffee, the utensils and sugar/milk should be serve at the same time, I had to ask the server to get them.
Brewed coffee was order, the barrista probably knows that the coffee bean were burnt and shouldnt be serve. The taste of the coffee were sour and I asked for replacement. They gave a Americano as a replacement drink, which I didn't really touch (basically just adding water to dilute the smell and taste)
When I order my food, they don't allow substitution of fries for onion rings or Sweet potato fries, they insist that your order will have fries and you order the extra sides. Kind of stubborn for not having options (maybe a buck fifty for upgrades). I told them I would like to pay more and get the sides, and don't want the fries, they still insist the plate portions cannot be change.
Server contacted us that due to high volume traffic our food will be delayed. After 40 minutes of wait for chicken waffles and piggy Benny. Huge disappointment on the piggy Benny. The salad aren't fresh, the fries are no name branded fries, presentation is poor. The egg Benny itself is fully cook. Horrible experience.
Every time we have to ask for condiments, waffles no syrup, fries no ketchup, coffee no sugar and cream...
As I am writing this review, I was waiting for my food. My friend and his wife just stormed out the door. 5 tables asking for assistant or waiting food over...
