I've been back a few more times since the first visit. Had breakfast again, had lunch and bought some frozen items for dinner at home.
The steam rice dishes seem to be good so far. Had the pork ribs and pumpkin. Also had pork ribs and taro. Definitely like the pork ribs and pumpkin better.
The hainese chicken is not good at all. The rice was bland (kind of tasted like brown rice), the chicken had a weird texture and lacked flavour. Wish they added green onions to the ginger sauce. Portion is small.
The frozen food was ok, but would not get again. The soup was bland and because it was frozen, the texture of the items in the soup was off.
In general, it seems they are often sold out of items or the items won't be ready for a few hours. Seems like poor business.
Original review below We came during breakfast hours. Ordered the ham and hot dogs with macaroni, beef satay vermicelli, and egg sandwich.
The noodle dishes come with a hot HK style beverage and a eggtart. Price is just under $10+tax.
The food was good and the portion sizes are reasonable.
The eggtarts are definitely bigger than average. Great ratio of egg to crust. The egg was very delicate, great texture. We had the original eggtarts in both the crispy and butter crusts. Both were really good.
They only have 4 tables that seat 2 (can be rearranged to seat more than 2). Also no public washroom, so more of a takeout place.
If taking out, they pack the broth separate from the noodles.
The service was friendly, would definitely come back to...
Read moreFinally got a chance to try out Eggtart Queen, a bakery/HK cafe right across from Markville Mall. I arrived with my mom on a Saturday afternoon around 1:30pm, with the intention of dining in. We heard good things about now only the egg tarts, but also the Hainanese Chicken Rice. Unfortunately they only had one more of the chicken rice, so I ended up getting their combo A (ham & sausage with macaroni in soup). We also got 6 egg tarts and a satay beef pastry to go. In total, it came up to about $45. There are only about four tables (tables of two), but thankfully they were all free.
They brought the food to our table. Firstly, the Hainanese Chicken Rice. For just $12, it was OK, but the chicken was a bit too cold. It does come with a drink though. For Combo A, it was also just OK at $9.50, but is a pretty good value. You get the food, a drink, and an egg tart (valued at about $2-3 already). The soup in the macaroni was entirely tasteless and the luncheon meat included (supposed to be ham, but whatever) was very thinly sliced. The nappa cabbage had more taste than the soup... The egg tart and their HK milk tea are great though!
As for the egg tarts themselves, they were good. I thoroughly enjoyed the ginger milk and molten cheese ones. The original flavour is also very good and very large. I like that they use cookie shells, because most places with egg tarts use pastry shells (the layered ones) and I'm not a big fan of those. We heard lots of peopling coming in for the coconut one though, so maybe I should try...
Read moreI have read the not so positive reviews before coming to this place, so I don’t have much expectations for this place. But I think I should at least give it a try since I haven’t went before…
We bought 6 tart since they give u discount if you buy 6. So we got 3 egg tart (signature items supposedly I guess), one durian flavour, one cheese flavour and one savoury one - satay beef.
The egg tart is really fresh off the oven when we bought them with the egg still puffing up from the internal heat. This will make the tart taste a lot better when fresh off oven like that. Maybe I started off with no expectation, so the egg is actually better than I thought it would be. The flaky pastry is nicely done with butter flavour and the egg is baked perfectly and quite soft. It’s not a bad egg tart I gotta say (4 stars). Quality is comparable to “You and Me” bakery! But it is not cheap either in my opinion so factoring in the quality and price, I give it a 3 stars to 3.5 stars…
The satay beef one is actually quite good and abit of cheese crust on top and the satay beef fillings do taste like satay beef.. lol.. worth a try too in my opinion!
It is a nice egg tart place and I think you should still give this place a try if u havent try and live in the area. You should try the egg tart first as I believe this is their focus (they even offer two kinds...
