I dined at Baton Rouge Thornhill multiple times. It has been a while since my last visit. Last night, I took my family there for a celebration. Sadly, this visit was unpleasant, disappointing. The owner or the management of this restaurant may have changed. First, my reservation was at 6:30 pm. In the past visits, the restaurant was full, guests crowded in the waiting area. It was a contrast to last night, which seemed to be unusual on a Friday night. The waiting area had no guests. Only one third of the dining room was seated. I had the Grilled Mediterranean Branzino, my wife and my son had the Top Sirloin and Prime Rib respectively. The portion of my dish was unexpectedly small. The plate was not hot. So, you can imagine the temperature of the food. The same happened to my wife and my son. When the server puts the food on the table, it is common for the server will say “please be cautious, the plate is hot”. We did not hear this phrase. When placing the order, my wife requested the steak to be cooked “medium”, my son requested the prime rib to be cooked “medium rare”. Unfortunately, what they had was not what they requested. The steak was “well done”, the prime rib was “medium”. The presentation did not look good either. Using “pok choi” as one of the sides is not compatible with steak. Another funny thing about the “prime rib” was it did not look like “prime rib”. After putting down the food on the table, the server did not ask if we would like to have some fresh pepper. He just walked away. He did not come back to ask about our food. After our entrée, we did not have the mood to have dessert due to the disappointing food. We decided to ask for the bill and leave. We waited for like ten minutes, seeing our server walking around serving other tables. To me, it is a surprise. At the time that we asked for the bill, the dining room was not even half full. However, the server seemed to be very busy, juggling balls in sweat. Finally, he came with the bill and the credit card machine with no smiling face. After this visit, we will not come to this location again. The management must review the business, identify areas that need to be improved. Otherwise, the business volume may fall, putting the...
Read moreOur experience here was a bit of a strange one, but I'll get to that a bit later.
Great atmosphere and our server, Nicole was excellent, so no complaints there.
As for the food, I enjoyed their spinach dip, but my NY strip wasn't the med-rare that I asked for. And my wife's top sirloin wasn't the med that she asked for. Our temperatures were swapped. It wasn't a big deal so we didn't mention it.
The wine glasses with the "BR Thornhill" on it was a weird design choice. I can understand it on a beer mug, but wine glass?
Ok...so on to our strange experience: we were actually here to celebrate a (my) birthday. My wife had ordered me an orange chocolate truffle cake from a nearby bakery (near FMP) and we picked it up right before heading here. The reception lady that greeted us offered to put it in the fridge for us until we were done our dinner. Ok, dinner is done, we asked for our cake and 15 min. go by and our waitress, Nicole couldn't find it. Other staff came by to try and get more information on the cake: who greeted us/took our cake out front, how big was it, what kind of box, etc. Some more time went by and still nothing. Manger comes by to let us know they gave our cake to another table (LOL WUT?). So I said: okay.. well, I want my cake, so just give me theirs (my assumption at that point was that they swapped cakes accidentally). Manager then corrects me. That table didn't bring a cake. But they we given ours even though they hadn't brought a cake...?!?!?!? Apparently, the cake was labeled for the wrong table and that's why it was brought out to that table/family.
BR staff were very apologetic and tried to make things right: they offered us free dessert, paid for the cost of the cake and gave us a $50 gift certificate for a future visit. Mistakes happen, and this was probably the result of a comedy of errors.
I am upset at the family that accepted the cake that was clearly not theirs. They could've prevented this mistake from occurring by simply pointing out that they hadn't brought a cake and it was likely a mistake. But instead they chose to...
Read moreLet me start by saying, if you want to have the best ribs, this is your place. The food was wonderful and the place looks fabulous and high class. With all this said, you expect the best service too and that was not the case.
I am used to baton Rouge that was downtown in Eaton center before it closed. Best service. This is my 2nd time at this location, the waiter was slow in attending to our table and they were slow in getting the drinks ( all the times we asked for drinks) , I think the places that actually have a dedicated person who brings the drinks are more efficient and faster. The waiter was not very welcoming, maybe tired.. Then my food is there and when I flipped the Coleslaw to poor it inside my plate, I see a piece of hair which is aprox 2 inches long... !!! I look around and see the waiter that brought the food. He was talking to another one so I called 3 times " excuse me" and no one answered!! I had to raise my voice like shouting " EXCUSE ME" and he finally looks around and comes to our table annoyed that I stopped his conversation.. Saying rudely, " what do you want".. I showed him the Coleslaw where the hair is and his attitude changed to apologetic and asked if he replaces the whole plate. I said that he does not need to, just to get me another Coleslaw salad. We ate, we had fun, we all enjoyed the food but I can say the service was not to the level of a baton Rouge and I intentionally took the pics to show that it was nearly empty so the slow service should not have happened. No one comes to ask if all is ok. You order a refill and you wait for 10 minutes to have it. What happens if it was full? We wait for half an hour? I am used to the service downtown where the waiter keeps coming to check if you need anything, checks if all is ok, smiling and happy that you are there. I didn't say anything but my friends were saying later that the service was not that good.
I think management has to work on a higher standard of service to the level of the place. But I can for sure say that the food and the...
