Went there during early dinner time on a weekday (5pm). There was no one there, just one waiter/cook. Waiter was attentive, quick to get our order and food was deliver quickly. We order their signature beef brisket noodle and pork rib noodle. You can choose between round and flat rice noodle or wheat noodle. Menu is rather small, few types of noodle, few appetizer and 3 drinks.
The good: nice decor, newly renovated, open concept kitchen, quickly deliver. I can see Owner put a lot of effort in, they cover the sharp edges on the chair so you don't bump into corner :)
Food: Like the pickled vegetable so you don't get sick of the flavour even on your last sip Beef broth taste good. Not a lot of salt/msg! That's huge, I can see they are family style and try to differentiate themselves with a lighter broth
Need improvement: Quantity: portion size small even for a girl, I have to have a second dinner an hour after. You can see on my pic, u only getting few bites of protein Quality: no flavour! My pork broth was so plain I can only taste the soy sauce. Management: it's a rather confusing concept: they tried to be modern: open concept kitchen, playing western/radio music yet their food is very Chinese with very little selection of food.
My suggestion would be more protein selection to cater wider group : ie just like the Thai express, u can choose protein, style and flavour separately for more variety. Or you stick to Chinese customer with more authentic dish and bigger menu. I have not seen a rice noodle place with out chill oil
No a/c! I was sweating while I was sipping my noodle
In general, it was an okay experience, nothing too surprising neither too bad. However with $10 a bowl, there are many other restaurants in the area that serve...
Read moreMy experience left much to be desired. As I walked into the restaurant, I had high hopes for a delightful meal, but unfortunately, those hopes were dashed. The ambiance seemed promising, with soft lighting and a cozy atmosphere, but it was the food that ultimately disappointed.
The menu boasted a variety of options, and I decided to go for the noodles, a dish I usually enjoy. However, what arrived at my table was far from satisfying. The noodles were lackluster, with a taste that can only be described as "meh." They lacked the depth of flavor and texture I had anticipated.
Hoping to salvage the meal, I ordered a soup, but that too failed to meet my expectations. The flavor was off-putting, leaving a bitter aftertaste that lingered. It was a stark contrast to the comforting and flavorful soups I've had at other establishments.
Regrettably, I left the restaurant with a sense of disappointment and the firm decision that I would not be dining there again. No offense to the staff, as they were attentive and polite throughout the meal. Sometimes, one negative experience can leave a lasting impression, and it's only natural to seek out other dining options where I've had more satisfying meals.
In the future, I might consider exploring different restaurants or returning to places where I've had better experiences. Nonetheless, this dining adventure served as a reminder of how crucial culinary experiences are in shaping our preferences and influencing our choices when it comes...
Read moreJin's Mi-Fen opened 4 months ago at this location in Markham after the Yonge Street location closed down. This restaurant specializes in Hunan style rice noodles served with marinated meats and vegetables which you can opt to have dry or more soupy. Jin's Mi-Fen claims that they do not use MSG and they pride themselves on their house made broth which is made using traditional recipes from 400 years ago. Each order comes with your choice of thin or thick rice noodles or wheat noodles. They also provide complimentary refills on the noodles.
The restaurant is clean with seating for about 20 people at maximum capacity. The staff serving us was very friendly and helpful, and offered recommendations and descriptions for the dishes.
We ordered the signature beef double up ($13.99). A broth was served on the side, and we were instructed that we could add the broth to our noodles bowl to our desired sauce /soup consistency. I would have preferred if the noodles had a bit more bite to them but the dish overall was flavourful, and generously portioned.
We enjoyed the spicy beef with cilantro side dish, served cold in a spicy chili oil with peanuts. I enjoyed the crunch of the peanuts and the heat from the oil. I just wish there was a less oil in the dish.
Looking forward to returning to try the braised beef with noodles and the braised tofu (which they were sold out of at the time...
