We called to make a reservation, it was then we found out the restaurant was newly opened and still during their soft opening period. We were informed that ONLY TEPPANYAKI would be available during this period, but in the future BBQ will be offered. We decided to still give it a go. When we arrived, a serve guided us to the Teppanyaki side. I couldn't help but noticed how spacious and bright the restaurant was. We were seated and the menu was given. My boyfriend actually pointed out the seatings were quite cramped because he was elbowing my chest too often during the meal. I have chosen the SET FOR 1 meal C- shrimp and sirloin steak, while he chose the SET FOR 1 meal E- lobster tail and fillet mignon. Salad, miso soup were given as appetizer, followed by the chef's cooking. The cooking process was nothing fancy (no tricks in case you are wondering) but very professional. I couldn't help but just stare at the way the chef was cutting and scraping the pan- very articulate. The food were cooked separately in front of you with the seafood first, followed by the steaks, then the fried rice and lastly the seasonal veggies meaning bean sprouts and carrots and others. The male server we were assigned was very attentive throughout the meal. He kept coming in to refill water/ tea and take away empty bowls without asking!!! FOOD: - shrimp and lobsters = seasoned well, very tender, and has a hint of lemon on the lobster. Lobsters were cut into cubes and shrimps were de-shelled. - steaks and fillet mignon = SO. DAMN. GOOD!! Both were so juicy, rich in the umami flavour. Though they were a little over cooked for medium rare, they were still tender. The fillet mignon melted in your mouth as you chew. With the addition of grilled garlics, they complimented each other so well. - fried rice = its a minced beef rice with some diced veggies. Enough flavour in it, but its a typical fried rice.... NO DESSERT by the way, if you order the SET FOR 1!! I was slightly disappointed at that because I believe that a meal is not completed without dessert. But it is okay because I was quite full after this delicious meal. I overheard that in the future days the restaurant will have table BBQ (all you can eat? not sure, but crossing my fingers) and I will definitely bring my friends to check it out!

With Taste of Japan being long gone and Memories of Japan going under a couple years ago, there's been a lack of challengers rising to take the teppan mantle in the GTA (specifically in the North York, Richmond Hill or Markham). Enter Koke (which used to be called Kobe Teppanyaki when they first opened). I've been here with my family before and it's always pretty solid even though it doesn't quite match up to the former two places I mentioned at their peak. I made a res on mother's day for my family. We arrived and the waitress came over and told us that they were running a mother's day special which included: salad soup salmon fillet (x2) miso sea bass (x2) cuttlefish black tiger shrimps scallops short ribs angus beef striploin teriyaki chicken beef fried rice sautéed bean sprouts We had the option of upgrading the angus beef striploin to an A5 miyazaki wagyu striploin for an extra $40 (which we did since it was mother's day). The special was listed as $288 for 4 ppl (but w/ the A5 miyazaki it came to $320 for 4 ppl). Overall the food was solid! Our chef was friendly and cooked everything nicely. No show or anything like that (we saw another chef doing tricks at a different table). The short ribs and cuttlefish were VERY tender (I think the cuttlefish was the sleeper hit). I'm used to cuttlefish having a chewy texture LOL so this was a pleasant surprise. It wasn't listed on the menu but we got ice cream to round off the meal. We got black sesame ice cream as the waitress told us it was only seasonally available. It's hard for me to give 5 stars to teppan joints because I've been to places that give LARGE portions in addition to cooking the food well. While the mother's day special DID end up being enough food (I was full and we had some fried rice to take home), if you come here for a regular lunch and you've got a big appetite, this place may not have you leaving with your tummy full depending on what you order so just be mindful.

Came on a Friday afternoon but was charged weekend pricing. In true honesty, I cannot recall whether the menu we saw at the restaurant had the terms and conditions stated. We were informed it’s weekend pricing at the door. We still agreed to dine in since we were already at the restaurant. Most people will see the words Weekday and assume that it means Mon to Fri. At least I assume it that way! Instead of calling it Weekday, why not put Mon to Thur. And put Fri, Sat, Sun PH instead of Weekend. We ordered the beef lover set. The meat have no marination. And the cuts of meat for the unlimited rounds were tough. The meat that we can order one time were bit more tender but really nothing to write home about. Both meat and shrimps were fresh at least. The appetizers were no good at all. The gyozas, spring rolls and takoyakis were cold and soggy. Ordered karaage but the order didn’t came. As the deep fried snacks were poorly done, I didn’t bother to check in with the waiter on the karaage. I was looking forward to try the appetizers but was disappointed with the quality of the deep fried snacks that were served. The salmon belly was not fresh. And the udon soup was bland. In fairness, the service was not bad. The wait staff brought out our orders quickly. They promptly change out the grill plate when we requested and we still give the wait staff slightly more than 15% tips from the total bill. At the time of writing this review, the website did not have the terms and conditions stated on the menu. I noticed a discrepancy on the maximum seating time. The first page of the menu states 1 hour 45 minutes but on the second page of the menu it states 2 hours. I wanted to point out that the font size on the terms and conditions are extremely small and hard to read.

UPDATE: Regarding the situation below, the waiting staff, specifically May and the other ladies really made up for the lack of service we experienced at the start of the night. They really took care of us throughout our dinner and went above and beyond for us. They were sincere in their apologies about our experience and even went so far as to ensure us that a team meeting would be done to review how everything for this reservation was handled. Overall, very impressed with how this whole thing was eventually taken care of. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and meal and would recommend this place as we have before. Thank you to the staff who helped make the situation better.

I've been here before and had an amazing time. However, today, a friend had a reservation for a large group for 7pm. He was required to pay a $200 deposit to secure the tables. My understanding of this is that this holds those tables for the duration of our visit. Unfortunately, a majority of the group was running a bit late as we come from all over beyond the GTA. The client who made the reservation informed the hosting staff that his guests would be 30mins late. We would have understood that our 2hr seating time would still remain and we would merely catch up and deal with the shortened timeframe. However, the hosting staff informed my friend, the client who made the $200 deposit, that the tables needed to be given away if our group wasn't all here. This was not communicated to the client when making the reservation and agreeing to the deposit. I'm unsure what the point of the deposit would be if the tables could not be held. Regardless of our lateness, the tables should have been ours. Our group was also not tended to well enough while we waiting for seats to empty and merely pushed aside to fend for ourselves. A few of us waited an hour after the reservation started before being seated, even though we saw some empty seating available. Extremely disappointed in today's service, which is a shame because it was me who highly recommended this...
