Haven't been back to this place in many years, but so glad this place is still around because I freaking love their kimchi 🥳
Please note that the listed prices below were pulled from their online menu which does seem to be outdated so please add on a couple dollars to each dish to manage your expectations when you drop by!
-[KALGUKSU + BRAISED PORK] $20.99 🍖 honestly, was planning on ordering just a whole plate of their braised pork with garlic sauce but the price was so steep ($40+) that I backed off haha 🍖 I'm so happy that they offer this combo instead because it allowed me to try both dishes of their noodle soup as well 🍜 okay, so the beef broth for their kalguksu is STELLAR! looks spicy but I promise it isn't spicy at all
-[MYUNGDONG KING SIZE DUMPLINGS - 6 PCS] $13.99 🥟 despite the emoji I am using, their dumplings here are steamed and filled with ground pork, and veggies 🥟 they are just as enormous as I remembered them so eating just two of these could qualify as a light meal if I'm being honest 🥟 the sauce for both this dish, and the seafood pancake is found in a tall bottle on every table, and it goes so well with both dishes
-[SEAFOOD PANCAKE] $20.99 🐙 this is honestly the best seafood pancake I have ever had because it is actually crispy! 🐙 additionally, it is packed with seafood such as squid, clams, and green onions 🐙 I just love it so much, I want it again now that I'm typing this out haha
-[KIMCHI] FREE 🌶 this is free, but I always pack it to come home with me because that's just how good it is 🌶 super flavorful, and it's honestly barely even spicy when you compare it to kimchi from other places
What a great place to dine at on those chilly days in the...
Read moreFood was okay but the service was terrible.. went here on May 11th at 5pm for an early Mother’s Day as my parents was craving this. We usually go to the highway 7 one but the location of this one was better suited for our plans for the day.
Once we got seated, there is an electric stove that is in front of my Dad’s corner of the table. With this stove here there definitely would not be enough space for him to eat comfortably so we moved the stove to the end of the table where we had space to spare. When the 아줌마 saw, she very rudely, in Korean, questioned why we moved it. We explained that my dad would not have space all crammed like that and we had some space to move it to. The lady then gave a lot of attitude as if we broke something or that it wasn’t a valid reason to move it. Because she took it so seriously we were saying we could move it back if she wants and again very rudely and in a scolding tone said “well you moved it anyways it doesnt matter”.
She then walked back and we could hear the lady talking about it with her coworkers (we were seated right infront of the payment desk) and she kept complaining how we moved it and spewed some insults. Mind you, it isn’t something that is hard to move around, just an electrical plug to an outlet and we did not move it in any way that would be in the way for other guests (The restaurant was quite empty as we ate around 5pm before dinner rush). As my family is not very confrontational, we just ate our food and left as usual but definitely ruined dinner for us. It was utterly disappointing how a good day was potentially ruined by this terrible service.
If you want their food, just go to the Highway 7 location....
Read moreSo many memories here. First date w/ my gf. The over-ordering and sharing of many dishes w/ my friends.
Since my last review they no longer only serve 3 things. They now have bossam, jokbal and also big beef rib kalguksu on the menu!
That beef rib kalguksu is one of the best value items in york region. You get THREE beef ribs and a ton of fresh noodles. The bowl is bigger than your usual bowl. The broth is incredible and the noodles are nice and chewy.
The jokbal and the bossam are also phenomenal. The bossam is actually melt-in-your-mouth texture and while the jokbal is not as good as say Hanyang Jokbal, it's still very tender and flavourful.
Last but not least, CMON. DAT KIMCHI. It still hasn't been topped for me. Extremely garlicky with that homemade fermented taste. I'd be able to recognize that kimchi with a blindfold on.
Ppl are always comparing this resto to Jin Korean Noodles over near Times Square. I tried that place that and while I thought it was good, I really dnt understand why ppl are giving it such high ratings. Imo, this place is the OG and the food is arguably tastier and better value-wise (larger portions). Maybe cuz it's still the "newer" kid on the block or perhaps because it's in a more regularly frequented location?
FURTHERMORE, Jin's menu is VERY similar to this place. The only difference is they don't have big beef ribs, jokbal or bossam but rather, combo sizzling plates for bulgogi and spicy pork. Their kimchi is also similar to Myungdong's but I think Myungdong just has that little bit extra OOMPH to put it over...
