Omg. Pho Hoang Gia is truly a hidden gem for authentic, tasty Vietnamese food that doesn't break the bank. I found them on Maps and was interested in the high rating. I made an order online via UberEats and picked it up on my way home. The place itself is quite hidden - it's located in a plaza that's a bit hard to turn into and there's only like 10 parking spots. It's easy to make the turn into the wrong plaza, even if you're following Maps.
The ambiance of the restaurant itself is very nice. They have lots of plants outside of the entrance that they water regularly so it's beautiful. Inside is simple and not cluttered decor, and is pretty small. Just a couple of handfuls of tables. I arrived to pick up my order around 6:30pm on a Friday and they weren't too busy (maybe around 4-5 tables occupied, mostly families). The parking lot was pretty much full, though.
I ordered the tricoloured dessert, rare beef pho, and the grilled beef vermicelli. Quick tip here - when I ordered, UberEats was actually cheaper than their menu prices. The tricoloured dessert was also BOGO. The tricoloured dessert was very good even for takeout and my favourite was the vermicelli. I would definitely come back...
Read moreStepping inside, you’re greeted by rattan baskets and warm lighting, clean, airy, and with a relaxed Southeast Asian vacation vibe. Grilled Pork You can really smell the lemongrass. The sweet–savory glaze and charred edges lock in the juices. The shredded lettuce, pickled carrots, and cucumber keep it fresh alongside the meat. Some fatty bits can be a little rich, but overall it’s delicious. Grilled Beef Charred and sweet, savory in the best way. Well marinated with a hint of honey/sugar caramelization, and a base of garlic and black pepper. Perfect with the white rice. Rare Beef Pho Clear, bright broth, naturally sweet at first sip, followed by gentle spice aromas. The beef slices turn tender in the hot soup. A very comforting bowl on a cold day. Vietnamese Iced Coffee milk forward and on the sweeter side but not cloying. Smoothand distinctly Vietnamese. I loved it! Overall, the rattan lamps and bamboo decor create a warm, cozy space with comfortable table spacing, easy to chat without noise. Dishes taste clean and consistently good. Definitely a place I’d...
Read moreHidden Gem! Small family restaurant, not busy for dinner but I'm sure they're busy for lunch with the offices nearby! Came here twice and tried for their meat (chicken first time, then pork second time) vermicelli bowl with spring rolls and both dishes did not disappoint, although I like the texture of the pork more. loved how they have a lot of salad veggies in a big bowl, big portion, the meat was not overly salted or dry, just right! The pho, as you can see the broth looked a bit greasy but a few other vietnamese restos we've visited recently also had broth on the greasier side and we were told it was a different style of broth...or it's from bone marrows in the soup? I'm not the expert but the soup and noodles were still delicious! This small restaurant is tucked in a small plaza on Green Lane (East of Bayview past the Thornhill Community Plaza with the Food basics), not a lot of parking space, but you'll probably have enough if you come for dinner. I'd love to come back and try their other soup noodles because they all look...
