We had heard that sukhoTHAI had recently made its way up north to Scarborough. Being the fourth of its locations, we had dined at the downtown locations and was eager to give this uptown location a try.

When we arrived for dinner Tuesday night, we could see there were quite a number of empty tables on the patio. We patiently waited 10 minutes before a hostess came to greet us to take our table size and dining options. We decided to sit on the patio to avoid having to wait for a table inside as there were more dining tables outside than inside.

Upon sitting down, we reviewed the menu options and decided upon the sukhoTHAI pad thai with chicken, Thai fried rice with beef, and green curry with chicken and we ordered Thai milk tea and the limeade to go with our meal.

While the drinks were good, the food was immeasurably disappointing. The pad thai was bland and the chicken was well overcooked. There was a distinct lack of flavour and tanginess one would expect from a pad thai. The friend rice was equally bland and supplemented with disturbingly tough beef slices. However disappointing the pad thai and fried rice was, the green curry was the saving grace. The curry was flavourful and the bamboo shoots were refreshing.

When it comes to the service, we perhaps had caught them on a bad night as we had to ask numerous times for chili oil and utensils which was disappointing compared to the downtown locations.

Overall, based on the hefty prices (around $20 per dish) one would expect a certain level of quality. However, this location served neither a great meal nor a great experience and in my opinion severely damaged the sukhoTHAI brand. I would not recommend this location at all and would rather recommend making the trip downtown to visit one of the...

This is the newest SuhkoThai locations. The menu is similar to the downtown locations.

The decor and atmosphere of this place is really nice for dine-in. There is even a nice patio with lights strung overhead to give you that Thai night market feel in the warmer months.

I've been to this location on several times on the weekdays for both lunch and dinner. It is usually fairly busy. The staff are friendly and attentive. They could probably use 1 more person on staff to provide help during the rush especially when there are a lot of food delivery orders.

The food is seasoned well and has the authentic flavour of anyone craving Thai food.

My favourite go to dish is the Khao Soi Salad as it offers the rich savoury Thai curry flavour but on a medium that is light but still filling. The Khao Soi noodle dish would be my 2nd go to if I was really feeling hungry.

The curry meat dishes like the Paneng Chicken Curry in my photo are full of flavour. The sauce of the Paneng is served much thicker than most places allowing the flavour to stick to the chicken and veggies. The portion size is a bit small as the dish is served on a shallow plate, possibly because it's not as soupy as other curry dishes. Serving size would be good for one unless you're ordering multiple dishes.

The pad Thai is good. It's got that tamarin flavour but is on the sweeter side. I typically lean towards pad Thai that is smokey from the wok and a bit more earthy in flavour but that is a personal preference.

Overall a great place for anyone craving Thai flavours. It on par with the well known Thai spots in the close vicinity. If you enjoy Khao Soi this is definitely your choice...

I would love to come again when this restaurant has more experience under its belt. The back of house is not ready for the level of traffic that comes in. We went on a Friday night and it was incredibly busy.

The servers that night was attentive although overwhelmed. We started the night ordering our drinks and mains. Surprisingly our mains came before our drinks and after asking a server, we were told that the bar is super backlogged and our drinks were coming up.

Our 5/7 mains arrived and I was not very impressed. Portions are smaller than you would expect but the worst of it all was our fish came out translucent and raw. You could not cut through it. It was sent back right away and our servers were very professional. The rest of the mains that came out was very mediocre. Rice that came with the curry were all undercooked, a bit hard and gritty in the middle. Curry was ok, but there was curry dripping all around the edges of the bowl.

Our food was almost near done before the undercooked fish came back with the last two mains. We checked the redone fish and it was borderline suspiciously cooked. Out of the last two mains, one of which was also another fish. Jokingly we cut the fish open to check if it was also raw. Sadly, it wasn't funny when the second fish came back completely raw. We promptly spoke with our server who mentioned he was going to speak with manager without us asking. After that, the manager came up to apologize and replaced the items. But for the fish to come back consistently raw, your kitchen is not ready for this item and I would highly recommend removing it for now before you're able to keep up with the volume of...

I used to go to the downtown location all the time and the taste is still relatively the same at the Markham location. My favourite dish by far is the Khao Soi made with beef, the beef is so tender and melts in your mouth while the sauce is packed with flavour and super delicious. Their mango sticky rice was also very good, however I personally would have made the coconut sauce less sweet to better complement the rice and mangos.
