Edited July 13, 2034 Have to update my review to unfavorable as not sure if greed-flation fully set in or what but what you pay for certainly isn't worth the price being asked anymore for this type of food.
While I know things can be challenging economically, after visiting several times in the last 6 months I am forced to comment that when dishes are upwards of $16-$20+ and what you end up with is 90% carbohydrates and a smidgen of vegetables and proteins, this is a huge change from a year ago (not counting fried rice dishes of course), much less what I started noticing 6 months ago when I last updated my review.
Service is still good, quality is still good, but I am not interested in paying for a plate of carb's when I am ordering a dish that the main event is supposed to be the proteins and\or vege's and I end up with a few shreds of meat and vegetables it is very disappointing considering I have been going to this restaurant since my school days in 2001.
I rather spend the same money and go elsewhere or spend less and get similar.
If places like Manna Kitchen, Blooming Garden, Ming's (Peach Tree) and M&Y can do good quality, good service and decent portions for the price then Sugar Sweet can as well.
Very disappointed as I REALLY liked Sugar Sweet for years.
Old review below:
Pro: Food quality has gone up since March 2020 (from its already good status)
One of the only HK that we have explored that can consistently make a decent cheese roue or cream sauce that isn't saturated with gritty corn starch.
Take out orders only currently due to lock down (Feb '21) and typically fulfilled within 15min of calling them directly. (We avoid UberEats, etc.)
If you are getting a daily special meal, you can swap the soup for a hot drink typically. Swapping for a cold drink will cost a little bit extra though.
Con: They don't have a dedicated website as yet. You can either use the menus on Google Maps or UberEats etc. as a guideline. Daily Specials are not listed though.
They have limited chef's, so expect larger orders to take longer (which just makes sense anyways, so not really a con) - larger orders being anything over about 5 separate dishes.
They haven't installed sneeze guard's as yet but do have a good physical distancing setup.
Note: Prices have gone up a bit in the last year but still good quality and value. Understandable given everything happening, but thought...

Cons: Non booth seats are tight
Been to Sugar Sweet Cafe in the past but keep forgetting to review this place. Sugar Sweet is another quintessential HK style cafe. The food is good, the prices are fair and the portions are great.
Located in a small plaza with an independent gas station, it's unassuming and pretty well known among the locals of the area. This place is super busy during peak times. Expect to wait a little if you come in at that time.
Sugar Sweet fits as many tables and booths as it possibly can into its location. The booths are fine space wise. If your sitting at the tables though, expect to be crammed a little bit. The aisles are also a tight fit and with the servers flying all over the place, it can get pretty crazy.
Sugar Sweet has a pretty extensive menu to pick from. They have everything you would expect at a HK style cafe. They have multiple specials throughout the day that come with an entree, soup and a drink. These specials are priced very well if you ask me. There are multiple specials to choose from under $10.
As you can see from my pictures, we got 3 entrees during our visit. My pork entree with Portuguese sauce on rice was great. The sauce was done really well. When it comes to HK style cafes, you can't tell a curry from a Portuguese sauce. It almost looks the same. The Portuguese sauce should be much lighter in colour from a curry. This place got it right and it was down right tasty. My wife's baked spaghetti was also done very well. Presentation was excellent as well.
The portion sizes here are great for what you pay. It's been like this for as long as I can remember. There was another patron sitting at a table beside me who got a rice dish. His dish was enormous. You get good value here. Also, I notice the cups they use for their cold drinks here are larger than usual. You win everywhere here.
Sugar Sweet has always been one of my favourite spots in the city. Surprised it's taken me this long to review it. It could use a bit more space but other than that, it's an awesome spot for your HK...
Read moreRead moreI don’t even want to rate this place. Although i used to work as a server and got through all the things in this job, I’m too disappointed about your staffs today. First of all, the attitude of your staffs, it’s extremely impolite when she was taking my order. She wasn’t patient at all, i intended to order 2 dishes, but she left as soon as my first order without saying “ Do you need something else?” Or something like that. Besides, she didn’t confirm my order whether she received it right or not, as the result, she made it wrong completely ( I ordered rice noodles with sate beef soup instead of instant noodles) and she also missed my second order. Because of it, i had to ask someone else to take my second order which should’ve done at the beginning. When I received my noodles soup, I wasn’t happy. I asked the staffs for checking my order but all the old lady gave me just like this “ Oh you know this go along with instant noodles = oh because I couldn’t heard”. Just simple like that, no compensation, not even feeling that she made mistake. It’s such a shame! In that moment, I realized that it doesn’t matter even I argue with her. The second thing is about Hong Kong style tea, it’s fine if you charge 50 cents to add 1 tea spoon of condensed milk on. However, please having responsibility for it, i must asked two times for my condensed milk and it felt like I was begging them for that. They did talk something in Cantonese about it and then no one brought what I asked for. Is that strange to add condensed milk on or you think that am i not willing to pay for you ? That’s enough for today! I couldn’t eat my noodles soup. Left great tip which isn’t worth my meal and your customer service. Since this place near my house and the food is great , i should’ve become your loyalty customer. Now,...
