When I first heard that a new chicken wing restaurant had opened nearby I was very excited to try it and was hoping they would be my new default choice for wings and that I will be visiting them very often. I tried WingsUp Unionville twice, once when they first opened and a second time today for their National Wing Day special. I'll summarize both of my experiences together as they were both fairly consistent.
I'll start with the positives, they serve great high quality wings, they were well cooked and a good size, none of those small half sized looking wings you might see at some other wing places. When ordering online, there is a great amount of order customization options. I prefer flats and I'm pleasantly surprised you can request mostly flats or drums for your order. This is a game changer and more wing places should adopt this. The staff were friendly and helpful and the restaurant is well maintained and clean so it looks very inviting.
As for the negatives, I want to preface by saying I feel it comes down to my own personal preferences than actual true negatives for the store, so what I consider as negatives may greatly vary from person to person, but I digress. I find the flavours to be much more milder and a bit more bland compared to other wing places. I had the Jamaican Hot on my first visit and it really didn't taste like anything at all. There was no real flavour and lacked any heat. I had the Sweating Bullets today which was good but for their hottest flavour on their menu and with a name like Sweating Bullets, it didn't quite live up to those expectations. It would be more of a mild hot at any other wing place. I also tried their BBQ Garlic, again it was fine but it lacked any strong impact from either the BBQ or the garlic. Another thing I didn't like was how soggy the wings were. The wings were breaded and sauced so I was expecting some crispiness with a mix of wet from the sauce but that wasn't the case. I feel like I just haven't found the right flavour from the menu that clicks with me, I would probably try some of their dry flavours next time, maybe the dust would pack more flavour and would definitely retain the crispiness of the breading.
My overall experience with WingsUp is that it's good but it doesn't really stand out, at least in terms of their flavours, where it makes me crave for it or recommend it over another chicken wing restaurant. I definitely will come back again to try their different flavours and other items on their menu just not as frequent as I initially...
Read moreWell, I have been ordering from this location for quite some time, I am sorely disappointed at the person who argued with me on the phone. He did not like the fact that I told him I had ordered many times and know the quantity of their bites. I ordered large, this is medium. He then tried to blame the uber driver (with the bag stapled, box sealed with a sticker) for somehow taking some of my food.... Ok? I told him I asked for the veggies to be taken out last time, he tried to convince me they gave me extra bites for the veggies... No sir, y'all would have made me pay extra 😅😅. You're not giving me free chicken in exchange for 2 celery sticks and 4 carrot slices.. Come on bruh.
Big mad and wrong at the same time. I had to tell him not to shout or yell at me. This person hung up on me, shouted at me over the phone because he did not like being wrong. Instead of listening to me he got defensive and disrespectful. Do better. Im not sure if your calls are recorded but I will contact your head office, your behaviour was inappropriate, especially if you are...
Read moreGreat quality wings - crispy, fresh and juicy. The coleslaw was balanced - not overly creamy or acidic - and had a great crunch to it. The coleslaw was easily my favourite side dish. We ordered the lemon pepper, honey garlic parmesan and hot honey. The hot honey was a little mild on the heat level, so if you like your wings with a good kick I would request it to be extra spicy. I also loved how the carrots were sliced thinly and on the diagonal. It was a great vessel for dipping and much easier to eat than the chunky stick cut shape that is traditionally used. I preferred the blue cheese dip as it had less of a processed taste than the ranch. We will definitely be back to support a great...
