Would love to give this restaurant a solid 4 star rating for
Food: good; "like-home"
Restuarant: comfortable atmosphere, family friendly and nicely updated
Staff: very friendly, excellent pace to service, but they deserve better treatment from their employers & operators - which leads me too...
Notes on covid procedures: upon arriving (between 4 and 4:30pm) tables were separated with the full 6ft parameters, staff were not wearing masks but they had the space to stay out of our "bubbles". Everything was good - service, food, atmosphere - and then the dinner rush arrived.
Immediately all covid restrictions were ignored. People were seated back to back (there are no barriers of any kind, so you're literally head to head with the people behind you). As we paid, I took note to see if there were any government mandated signage in place. There were none in the entrance except for a note on the whiteboard saying "no more than 6 guests per table". The employee's we questioned about the disregard for the mandates seemed as put off by the situation as we were. "I just get told what to do" - which is 100% true but also completely unacceptable from a management perspective. We made sure these employees knew that we know it is out of their control - after all people need jobs, especially during this crisis. But these workers, as well as all patrons, deserve to feel safe and supported.
Argo's is one of those "like-home" restuarants and I have always enjoyed supporting their business, but I fully expect the people in charge to make the effort to continue to keep our numbers of active cases as low as possible. Medicine Hat did not avoid mass outbreaks by ignoring policies and we certainly will not have enough luck if the distancing rules are not upheld. Since it was clear that the people in charge were taking full advantage of their employees and the fact that most people seemed chipper, we have taken the precautions of informing public health. We hope to see the necessary changes in place so we can resume supporting everyone...
Read moreI have been a regular customer of Argos for some time,I have had some good meals there. Yesterday was very disappointing, I ordered my usual, The Basil chicken salad, I always get dressing and cheese on the side, plus I prefer an order of toast as opposed to garlic toast done on the grill and soggy,my meal arrived and the chicken was scraps and seemed to be fried as crispy edges, not the usual slices of breast, the server told me she would be back with dressing, as time went on I asked for it again, she told me they were making it as the last of the oil had been used to cook chicken (supposed to be grilled)as I dug deeper in to greens discovered the dressing had been added and was sitting on bottom of dish. Now to the toast fiasco, the toast was soggy (done on grill not toaster) the server went back to get me toast, she returned with slices of exceedingly burnt (black) toast. At this point I was totally fed up, asked for the bill and departed.
Not Argo's finest hour. This is an update 2025 My friend and I decided to try Argos again as new management. My friend had Liver and onions, sadly it was overdone and dry, she ordered gravy (1.30 charge) It did noy help, Mediocre was the word she used. I had Steak sandwich, the steak was nice, the Stuffed Potato (which they charged $2.50 even though listed as a side )was old and dry, the toast was soggy, strangely lying next to Vegetables onion chunks, 4 bits of zucchini and a broccoli floret were about 6 old shriveled up FF"s odd as not ordered (or eaten) not visually...
Read moreBeen a long time supporter of Argos and I hate to say it but tonight I was fairly disappointed in my experience. Ordered some pickup, went and got it, get out to my vehicle and realize one of my two meals is not in the bag. I return into the restaurant to let them know and the host seemed thrown off by my claim, almost as if I wasn't being truthful about missing an entire meal?... I get told they are warming my food and get left with the meal I already had, assuming it would only be a moment.. 10 plus minutes go by and still waiting, with my food on the counter getting cold (and I know thats not long, but long enough to cool off your meal when you have to transport it home yet). At this point I know the second meal was forgotten initially and I can appreciate life happens but if you needed to make an entire meal, the least that could have been offered is to keep my meal that was made warm? I feel like the old Argos and/or the old owner would have profusely apologized and tried to compensate in some way whether that be a discount or to remake it all or would have at least kept my food warm as they use to be very customer based... The waitress who brought out the rest of my food was very sweet and kind so I can't fault staff for that, but the overall experience definitely was not the best. I get home to soggy cold pasta and cold soggy garlic toast... All around very disappointing to past experiences and I hope this is not the...
