Osmow's Shawarma — Restaurant in Medicine Hat

Because I have CPTSD, certain smells even can trigger a flashback. Its not always bad, sometimes it works in wierd ways. When I walked into this place, and I got a whiff of their shawarma meat, I was transported 13 years back in time to when i was waiting in line at a shawarma stand in Cairo, Egypt, waiting to try one for the first time. Nothing says authentic quite like that. Most other places do not have fresh shawarma meat that gets slowly roasted througout the day and then sliced off the log right in front of you, but osmows does. Instead many places use pre packaged meat or they cook one ahead of time and serve it to you reheated! Its a shame! I spent two years living in egypt. A chicken shawarma was my favorite egyptian food and it took me 13 years to find a place over here that served chicken shawarma exactly how they did in egypt using the same recipe! If you want to experience authentic Egyptian street food, this is the place! They throw a western twist on some of their food of course, like the shawarma poutine for example. But if you order a classic chicken shawarma from them you will get exactly that. And it will be exactly like the ones served up on the streets of Cairo say for having higher quality chicken, being bigger and having a few extra options for toppings. The food here is amazing! 5 stars for authenticity...

Delicious food, great portions, good price, friendly staff that listen to instruction perfectly every time. A nearly perfect experience.

So, why only 4 stars?

Before explaining, I would heavily encourage every person to try this restraunt, and I am not attempting to tarnish their name by giving 4 stars. I have been there several dozen times and would always experienced great flavour, service and quality.

So, to explain the 4 stars.

It has been a healthy amount of time since I have visited osmow's, not becuase of the staff or service, but because of the quality of the food I have experienced in the past 4 or more visits.

To specify, it's been the chicken that has made me give osmow's a second thought when I am in search of a meal. I am uncertain what happened, but after a certian point, the quality of their chicken seemed to have taken a dive. It being either the chicken on the rocks, or the chicken shawarma wrap, the chicken has consistently has large chunks of grissle And inedible parts that ruin the entire meal for me. This has become such a problem with my meals that as of late, I find myself digging through the food for any culprit pieces of chicken rather than enjoying my meal.

To sum, I love osmows. A unique twist in the fast food industry that has provided me with lots of great meals and a friendly environment to top the experience. I solidly recommend everyone try...

My wife and I first heard about Osmow’s Shawarma from watching the Toronto Raptors games and we were excited to try it. It looked really good and much different from the normal fast food that we have and now we have one in Medicine Hat! We certainly weren’t disappointed! The helpful staff came out from behind the counter to explain how it worked and what everything was.

My favourite is the chicken shawarma mix of half Caesar salad with pita chips and half rice, with the chicken shawarma. I choose medium spice, garlic sauce and the beautifully pink, pickled turnips. It is incredibly balanced, delicious and just the right amount of spice. Get hot if it is too mild for you (but it is very spicy), or mild if you like less. The mango juice goes great with it and cuts the spice nicely!

They make great wraps that my wife loves too, or get it on fries instead of rice or a Greek salad. A fantastic Canadian alternative to fast food! It’s always fresh, tasty and they make it to order.
