Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen — Restaurant in Medicine Hat

Feb 22/25 We eat in at this Popeye's location once or twice a month since moving to Medicine Hat at the end of 2022. Mostly, we have been pleased with the service and the consistency of the chicken/fries & onion rings......except tonight. We arrived at about 5:45 and placed our order for a 3 pc chicken combo, original, with onion rings and a 3 pc chicken combo, spicy, with fries. They seemed to put our order together rather quickly....then put most of it back under the heat lamps. A couple of minutes later, the counter person signaled that our tray was ready for pickup.....which I did, and took it back to our table. My wife immediately noted that her fries were absolutely cold....I went to the counter and they did replace the fries. The large breast piece on my original order was barely warm, and quite dry. The other thing was that one of the the three pieces of chicken on my wife's "spicy" dinner was a very small piece of "something", which we weren't able to identify....it was smaller than a wing, had been thoroughly coated and it had been overcooked, almost to the point of being burnt. This meal was not to the usual standard of what we had come to expect from this location. We left and our tummies were full....but definitely not happy. We are hoping that this was simply an "off" night, but if it were to happen again, it likely would be the last time we would be a customer. Pay attention to what you are doing you guys.....customer loyalty is something you earn and very difficult to get back if...

I don’t know what’s happened to this place. The food used to be really good, now it’s honestly - kind of sucks. I really hate saying that but - it’s true. I won’t be coming back again. 7/11 has better chicken at this point and that’s saying a lot since they’re a gas station/convenience store…

I thought maybe it was a one off situation, but two times in a row the foods been less than satisfactory.

Mac and cheese was very watery and overall lacking flavour. Biscuits were very dry, hard and crunchy. Beans and rice seems to be mostly rice these days.

The chicken tenders, were very dried out, chewy - rubbery - almost if they had been freezer burnt.

Chicken is quite greasy as well.. seems like it’s all cooked in a batch and just left under a heat lamp so they can have “fast food”

I know people complained about having to wait for their food to be cooked before, but I’d rather wait for 10-15 minutes and have good chicken at least than to have it within 2 minutes and it be really greasy.

It seems like corporate has started cutting costs at the price of having lower quality food. Go figure, they are owned by BK and Tim Hortons parent company.

I will start with the Pros: the food is great! Some of the best chicken burgers you can get. The pricing is great as well. It destroys the other big chicken chain here in town! Definitely recommend them for this!

Cons: DO NOT ORDER AHEAD. Most places love this and ensure you're not waiting. Well, here they will serve all the in store orders before you. We watched in store orders placed after us being served before us. My partner has a 30-minute lunch break, and he had to speed ate half his sandwich as we waited almost 30 minutes for our order... the excuse "we're waiting on fries" THE LOWEST COOK TIME OF THE ITEMS. Next to the fact this order was placed in advanced so they should make sure they have the items ready to go for orders. I expect longer times during supper rushes, but in the middle of the afternoon, you should be able to offer fast service. However, from watching, the staff have no sense of urgency nor care about their customers. Not an apology or anything, just miserable looking staff hating their job.

Summed up. As long as you have time and / or order WAY WAY WAY in advanced, great place for...
