Takumi’s Japanese restaurant is a tiny, super authentic restaurant that makes some of the best Japanese cuisine in Medicine Hat! This restaurant is a one man show and the chef takes a lot of pride in his food. He has cooked internationally, from Korea to Japan and I was shocked to see him working in our little town. The restaurant is small, and has seating for around ten people, so be sure to make reservations, as he works hard and fast. He does takeout as well. But be warned that they often have to turn people away or you might have to get it as takeout instead, as it’s usually very busy. The staff is super friendly and very kind though. The sushi is fabulous, the homemade, crispy pork gyoza are amazing, the yuzu chicken karage and poke salad are top notch! The ramen though, is crazy good; I have had the black truffle ramen and curry ramen and they are ridiculously delicious. The truffle toro aburi nigiri is a must try too. Amazing food from one lone chef; Medicine Hat is lucky to have Takumi! Great sushi too!

I've never tasted a more amazing flavour combination than the phila bacon roll that they offer, I recommend this restaurant to anybody that wants sushi in the Medicine Hat area. They offer soups, rolls, tempura, Gyoza, Nigiri, Aburi style Nigiri, combos, rice bowls, ramen, and even party trays! The owners seem to be a great couple that really care for their small business. They do take-out during Covid and when they were open, were very adamant about following AHS regulations in regards to taking down a name and contact number for anyone dining in. Masking until you're sitting and eating is recommended. They have touch free payment and hand sanitizer is present at the entrance and by the cash.

Good: fish quality is fairly decent. What id expect from a decent sushi place in edmonton, maybe an above avg place in calgary. Miso soup was fine. Although of course hard to mess that up too much. Bad: rice for the rolls were not cooked properly. Its obvious from the pictures. Its just standard chinese jasmine rice. Way too soggy, it was basically sticky rice or even soggier. Some of the sushi pieces you couldnt even see a grain of rice and it was just a solid mass of rice. Cant tell if this is proper sushi rice with how poorly it was cooked. That is just not acceptable. Salad was over sauced as well to the point there was a good like 5 mm of vinegarette in the bowl.

First time it was happened to us and I can’t even imagine that this service experience was very terrible! From the beginning the waitress was rude, she don’t know how to say please! Food was ok! I can’t believe that the waitress are asking for the tip after i pay my Bill. It was so rude. Why she need to ask for the tip? That is up to the customers if they want or not? Its not a mandatory. I don’t believe to her that the owner is asking for the tip? The owner needs to thank if there’s someone who comes and purchase from the restaurant. The waitress is insisting my god! I have cash put on the table before i left that embarrassing experience i change my mind. I been working in the hospitality for more than 15years but i never been trained my staff to do the same thing. Tips is the reflection of their service. Tips is only an extra. I will never...

Unfortunately my experience in this place was bad. I drove long way from another city and I was so hungry, when I ordered ramen and sat to wait for my order, chef came to me and said that I can’t eat inside, because I made order near the casieršŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø. I told him that I didn’t know about this rule, but still he was rude and continued to say something, like I can’t share my ramen with my husband (ramen was really big and I couldn’t finish it by myself šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø). He said if my husband wants to sit here with me, he must to order something, but he wasn’t hungry.

Ramen was not bad, but he spoiled my mood with his face and words. Of course I never will come back to this place, because they don’t know how to talk with customers, better to find place with polite service.

I spent 20$ for ramen in that place, paid for service but got bad mood and experience...
