Read moreMy boyfriend and I went to the Keg on Sunday for dinner. We did not have a reservation and showed up around 5pm. There were 2 young hostesses at the door chatting and it took about 5 minutes before we were even acknowledged, there was no line up at that time. They asked if we prefer the lounge or dining room to which we replied either will work. We were sat in the lounge at a very nice booth. Our waitress arrived and took our drink order, I ordered a big glass of wine she suggested. Unfortunately it was very sweet ( I asked for a dry white ) so she took it back and brought me a dry wine. We ordered our dinner , he had scallops and bacon ( delicious ) and the prime rib. I opted for a Caesar salad, escargot and garlic shrimp. His prime rib was medium well, he ordered rare and it was very dry and exceptionally fatty. My Caesar salad was awesome, but the shrimp and escargot were very disappointing. Small ( for jumbo shrimp) , overcooked and bland. We sat there for 15 minutes before our waitress came back to do a quality check. She asked how it was and we told her that we weren’t overly happy. She cleared our plates, left, came back and gave us the bill, our bill was 142.00 so we gave her $170.00 and didn’t want change. She did an ok job. For 170.00 for 2 people I would have expected a lot better food, and service. The quality of this restaurant has gone down hill badly. Used to be out favourite spot to go. And on a side note when did waitresses in a dining room start wearing their long hair down this surely is a health concern when serving food. Needless to say we won’t...
Read moreWhat a HUGE disappointment. Even though I was only one of only 2 dinner parties on Oscar night, I think the chef was off... I ordered scallops and bacon and they had no flavour. They come with a sweet, processed sauce but that didn't help the dryness of the scallops. I mentioned it to the server and she said some people don't like them being too seasoned... hmmm, how about maybe them taste delicious? Caesar salad was okay though slathered in too much dressing for my liking. The Keg Classic of Prime Rib came medium as ordered. I poured the au jou on it and maybe that's why it was over salty? I couldn't finish it and fed it to my dog. I was asked if I had any allergies and I mentioned that I could only eat cruciferous vegetables fully cooked. The broccoli came crunchy; again, the dog benefited. A 6 oz glass of house red was terrible and I left over half. Bread was good though I sure missed just simple butter. All of this while listening to the two music stations competing from the lounge and restaurant. I was thinking when I was more optimistic ordering that I would get a GC for my uncle and another for my neighbours but after that disappointing experience I wouldn't gift that to anyone. I had been at a Keg in Lethbridge a year earlier and it was great. Medicine Hat has lots of work to do. My dinner at A&W the night before...
