The Sugar Shack Ice Cream & Bakery — Restaurant in Metchosin

Super disappointed, wanted to get skor cheese cake for a birthday party so I phoned the sugar shack. The worker told me they were short bakers and that they couldn’t accept orders which is fair. So I asked the lady on the phone if I could come by and buy the cheese cake in slices to which she responded I could get a full cake at the price of a pre ordered cake. I show up today to do so, and the lady behind the till said she can’t honour the price of a cheese cake order and it’s not her fault there’s no bakers. She was extremely rude. Each piece of cheese cake is 8.75 plus tax which would have made 14 pieces $122 when the price to order the cheese cake in advance is $60. Then to top it off while I’m on the side trying to decide if I pay double she is talking about us to her co worker laughing that “it’s not my fault we have no bakers we can’t do that “ which is also extremely rude while a customer is standing right there. I also asked if I could speak to a manager to which she replied ya he’s gone. So I made the mistake of driving to Metchosin to try the desserts at this 4.8 rated confectionaire. Not a good idea. 32 dollars for two pieces of double chocolate cheese cake and two pieces of flourless chocolate cake. My expectation at that price point is a quality to match Glamorgan Bakery or Jelly Modern Doughnuts in Calgary. Both concoctions are thick enough that you could use them as a functional one time door stop. The cheese cake flavour wise was no different than a Costco cheese cake. The flourless chocolate cake is like eating a brick of fudge both in terms of texture and sweetness. I love my sweets, espescially chocolate. I hope the microbes at the community compost facility enjoy these cakes more than i enjoyed the two bites I tried of each of these offerings. I hate to be critical of a small business in these tough times but this was exceptionally dissappointing. I love the yummy treats at The Sugar Shack but i’ve noticed recently that the customer service is very much so lacking. My partner and I came into the shop looking at the menu before we ordered, and instead of receiving a “hello” or “how can I help you?” the employee behind the counter was chatting to two other employees who were standing right in front of the till making it so my partner and I had to wait for the girls to be done talking before we could order. Very unprofessional. We were also somehow charged for a third treat item when we had only ordered two milkshakes. The machine was unable to refund us our money, so we had to have the refund in cash. I understand mistakes happen but this is not the first experience i’ve had with The Sugar Shack and it’s poor customer service. I hope things improve soon because I do love the atmosphere and...
