Frankly speaking — Restaurant in Midland

A hidden gem!! What a fabulous experience! A small, cozy, funky speakeasy that perfectly reflects the whole prohibition era theme. From the minute you step through the curtain you are immediately transported with the creative decor and atmosphere. They’ve converted an old piano into the serving station, funky pictures and music from the era, dark wood, and cozy lighting. We were greeted by owner/chef Wesley, and hostess/server Melanie. Cocktail menu is full of prohibition named drinks that are creative and delicious, although Wes will make you almost any cocktail you ask for. Beer and wine available as well. Wesley is friendly, personable and so fun! We had fun teasing him while he was behind the bar “creating”. He makes time to welcome everyone and drop by each table for a chat or recommendations on what to order. You feel like you’re at a private party, and truly feel like a special guest! Now for the food……small menu of tapas style items, good variety, beautifully presented. We were a party of 4 and we ordered almost every plate on the menu and shared everything. It’s one of those experiences where every single bite is incredible! Duck pancakes, crispy Brussels sprouts ( trust me….even if you’re not keen on them, you’ll love these!) , Brie & pear toast, lamb kebab with cucumber mint relish & pickled sumac onions. Each dish was creative, with good quality ingredients, and a perfect combination of tastes, textures and colours. And having it all served by friendly, fun Mel just completed our evening! Frankly Speaking is a really wonderful, must do experience! Way to go...

We stumbled upon a hidden gem tonight in Midland, Ontario — Frankly Speaking — and wow, what a find! It’s like someone dropped a slice of Toronto right into Midland, and I am absolutely here for it.

From the moment we stepped inside, the hospitality was top-notch. The staff made us feel so welcome, and the service was flawless.

The drinks? Next level. You can taste the passion and creativity in every sip — seriously, Toronto-calibre cocktails in the heart of Midland. Each drink felt carefully crafted and full of character.

The atmosphere is just as special. Tucked away behind a curtain, with cozy lighting on each table, it’s intimate and full of charm. Every detail has been thought through, making it the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy the evening.

We didn’t get a chance to try the food this time, but we’ve heard great things and will definitely be back soon to check it out.

Went here last night with a buddy and spent the night talking with Wes at the bar. Absolutely brilliant experience. Everything from the drinks and food to the atmosphere were incredible. Wes's mixing knowledge is also very impressive and while I'm not a cocktail drinker, my friend was and by the end of the night he was telling Wes which ones he liked most and Wes was mixing drinks on the fly to match his preferences. The food was also some of the best I've ever had. We had the salad and the jerk duck which were phenomenal. I also really appreciated the staff's efforts to accomodate my dietary restrictions. They really went above and beyond there. The atmosphere is incredible too. Its a cozy room that I could sit and drink in all night. I cannot...
