If I could give a 0 I would - just read a review from a day ago and it pretty much sums up my experience.
When we were deciding what drinks to order, our little guy (5 years old) was deciding what he wanted to drink.. and without any patience at all ,the waitress turned to someone else and said “well do you know what you’re having?” - left a bad taste in my mouth right from the beginning - don’t work in a restaurant if you 1. Don’t have patience 2. Clearly don’t like people 3. Don’t work in a family restaurant if you can’t have patience with kids - how would she treat the elderly??
Next up we ordered food.. I ordered my eggs over MEDIUM and they came out basically sunny side up.. I didn’t even want to ask her to change it, cause it honestly seemed like it would be way too much for her. The sausages were over cooked and had no taste.. the eggs were bland.. my toast was burnt and had no butter on it, and the home fries were home fries.
My friend had the “buffalo” chicken sandwich.. which was just Franks hot sauce on the chicken .. you should invest in real buffalo sauce.. or just mix some franks with butter and voila! The chicken burger smelled off and tasted off as well - she left the majority on her plate and wasn’t even asked why - these are the things you should really pay attention to.
Another friend had the chicken fingers and fries and asked for a side of medium wing sauce - the waitress said she would ask if they had it. Fingers came out.. no medium sauce (or even hot sauce for that matter) and forgot her coke. Her meal was okay.
The best meal at the table was the kids Mac and cheese .. aka kraft dinner. I was jealous of his plate. Heading home now to make myself some.
The end of the meal we sat and waited for bills that never came and looked at our empty plates for awhile. I finally decided we should just head up and pay - apparently that’s what you do, but we weren’t told ahead of time. I also brought the leftover fries from the kids meal up to the counter myself to be packed up and was just handed a container - no offer to pack it up for me. Cool.
I’ve worked in restaurants my entire life.. most recently as a GM of downtown Toronto restaurants. Do I expect Toronto service and quality? No. But do I expect over the top friendly, courteous, patient servers?? Absolutely! You have to make up for the things you lack through your impeccable customer service and give people something to remember - treat every table like your only table, and really go above and beyond for your guests. Shelbourne doesn’t have many good places to go to eat.. we stopped at 3 places before heading to the country cabin before settling in there. Let me just say the options are scarce. If you got your customer service right, you could probably do really well.
Side note: fix the menu. Putting white out over your pricing to jack it all up a dollar doesn’t look very good. Invest in printing new menus with the increase in pricing. Looks very tacky.
The server name on the bill was Lauralea (excuse my spelling .. it was a quick...
Read moreThe food was tasty, but you don't get as much as you would when compared to other places. Namely bigger chains. They did have a few menu items that may not be found anywhere else such as the Stuffed French Toast which has strawberry cream cheese stuffed between two slices of French toast which is dipped in rolled oats and granola. Topped with their own maple syrup blend, it was delicious. The chicken fingers leave a lot to be desired. The eggs Florentine and benedict were tasty, but the proportions were not as large as some other restaurants for the same price. The chicken best sandwich was delicious, but does not come with fries, so if you're looking to upgrade to a side of poutine, you have to pay extra for the fries, and then pay extra again for the poutine upgrade. You do get a bottomless cup of coffee. The wait staff was generally friendly, but they struggled to seat larger parties and orient the...
Read moreWaited just about an hour for food that never showed up. I asked how long it would be. They hadn't even started it yet. People who got there after us and a gentleman ordering take out (also after us) got theirs first. Our waitress was nice, the other waitress was not. Was told they were "busy" (they had maybe 5 tables of customers) If they were busy then why did the gentleman who ordered takeout get his before us? I ended up paying $2.31 for my one coffee and leaving. Drove an hour out of our way to go there. I am a cook and in customer service, I get people get busy. But my $2.31 coffee should have been on the house in my opinion. For reference we each (2 of us) ordered a club sandwich and fries, and 1 side of onion rings. Thr take out gentleman got 2 full bags of food. If I could give this place a 0 I would. If you are going to eat there be prepared to wait a long time and get attitude...
