The Wyck Recommendation: Champ Burger (Shelburne) Rating: 3.6/5 Frings, a Crossroads, and a 6-Person Salute
Intro Scene Three roads. One crossroads. Zero expectations. That’s how I landed at Champ Burger, the quiet, white-brick OG where Shelburne, Alliston, and Orangeville meet like a low-budget Marvel crossover. Right across the road? Superburger, all signage and swagger. But Champ doesn’t posture. It exists. And as I pulled in for a quick bite, I was met with… six people. Six staff. All greeting me like I was returning from war. I only ordered Frings.
What Was Ordered Just the Frings. Crinkle-cut fries and onion rings, fried golden and seasoned like they’ve never heard of bland. I received them ceremoniously—three different people handed them to me, as if I were about to knight someone with them. The entire experience felt strangely holy. No regrets.
Service Commentary Service? Service was a full production. Six staff greeting me simultaneously, three involved in the handoff, and not one person looked annoyed. Not a single sigh. Just smiles and vibes and genuinely great energy. For a $5 order, I was treated like royalty.
Vibe Check It’s chill but busy. People know about this place. You can feel it. It’s not loud, but it’s alive. The kind of spot where the regulars don’t look up when you walk in because you’re just another convert joining the fold.
The Space Itself Simple, smart, and surprisingly inviting:
Spotless interior (you could perform surgery in there)
A sleek covered patio with proper seating and string lights
A grassy hill with picnic tables for the sunny crowd
And yes, there’s a drive-thru—so clean and subtle I missed it at first
Washrooms were clean, which is a sacred roadside rarity
About the Neighborhood This isn’t a plaza. It’s a showdown. Superburger across the street is flashier, newer, louder. But Champ? Champ’s the one that’s been here. Like an old general watching the kids play war. Nearby, a gas station and a Subway complete the holy trinity of highway dining—but only one of them has 6 people ready to serve you a side dish like it’s state protocol.
Hits & Misses ✓ Frings were crispy, hot, and worth every crumb ✓ Service was almost absurdly attentive (in the best way) ✓ Cleanest burger joint washroom I’ve seen in years ✓ Patio seating that doesn’t feel like punishment ✗ Still haven’t tried the burger or shake (I know, I know) ✗ No shade on the picnic hill—but minor in the grand scheme
Final Verdict Champ Burger isn’t the loud one on the block. It’s the one that’s already won and doesn’t need to brag. Between the unexpectedly reverent Frings experience and the pristine setup, this place proves that confidence doesn’t have to be loud—it just has to be consistent. The burger battle isn’t over. But the Frings? Unquestionably... champion-level.

Read moreWell today I did a comparison of Champburger and Superburger something I have wanted to do for awhile. Here are my thoughts.
Bun - This bun was delicious it was soft a springy and also tasted a bit like a brioche bun it definitely gave this burger an edge.
Cheese- it says it's aged cheddar it seemed like American cheese. I am going to say didn't add or take away from the burger.
The topings got the works everything was your standard topings and they were fresh and good again didn't add or really take away from this burger.
The Beef - I am surprised that the great reviews of Champburger and Superburger both are using what I assume to be a frozen patty from a meat company. Champburger actually remind me of the roadhouse burgers from Costco. The cook was good on this it was seared nicely was was juicy and had decent flavor.
In conclusion I give the slight edge to Champburger the bun really added to it. But there are alot of other places that do a better patty.
My son had a cheeseburger as well and said it was better than supperburger.
My Wife and daughter had a hot.dog and fishsandwitch and said they there good.
Oh I forgot the fries. The fries are a crinkle cut fry. My son and I liked these better and my daughter and wife liked supperburgers fries better. If I either places was to do a fresh cut fry they would instantly become...
Read moreOffering a true "big back" review, these are burgers for burger lovers. Perfectly cooked / seasoned patties, with that perfect combo of crunch and juice - if you know you know. Toppings were fresh and flavorful, featuring an excellent burger sauce and a pickle that actually matters. Bacon on the banquet burger was thick and had a bold smoky flavor, better than any bacon I've ever tried. Bun held it all together without turning to mush.
Onion rings were real and tasty. My wife had the poutine and loved it.
Only complaint was that the size of the milkshake was a bit small for the price... but then again, they were much better than most milkshakes you find these days, so who knows what they're worth?
You're going to pay for quality here. For the two of us through the drive through, it was $62 for two combos - albeit upgraded to onion rings and poutine. All I can tell you is that it's worth it if you need a real burger... and based solely on the bacon, this is not an easy experience to recreate at home unless you know where to get that bacon!
Great job guys. You kick the hell out of the place across the road from you, and you're our yearly tradition on our way from the Trenton area to the...
