This place feels like my own little secret café—like I discovered it myself. But truth is, they’ve been around for 13 years.

Came in to meet a friend. First time here. The vibes? Chill, unpretentious, and welcoming. Feels like a cozy living room or your best friend’s kitchen.

You’re greeted by the rich aroma of fresh-ground coffee, the soft murmur of conversation, and a counter full of homemade cookies and pastries—some familiar, all tempting.

Prices are fair for a personalized experience. $3 for an Earl Grey tea with steamed milk, served in a glass if you’re staying in. $4 for a smooth Americano.

Behind the espresso machine, a cool-looking gent with salt-and-pepper hair. At the counter, a friendly woman who welcomed me when she heard it was my first visit.

The decor? Purposefully unfinished—or maybe just always evolving. My wife asked if it was under construction. I said, Yes, like our busy lives—always in progress.

Long story short, it’s now on my go-to list—for coffee, good company, or just sitting alone, writing...

Looking for the perfect espresso in Montreal? Café de' Mercanti on Monkland Ave is a true gem that brings a slice of Italy right to NDG! 🇮🇹☕️

From the moment you walk in, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee hits you, and you know you’re in for something special. Their espresso is hands-down one of the best in the city—rich, smooth, and authentically Italian, just like in Rome. Whether you’re a coffee purist or love a creamy cappuccino, you’ll find your new favorite here.

The vibe is cozy and welcoming, with friendly staff who make you feel like a regular even on your first visit. There’s plenty of seating inside and a cute garden terrace for sunny days—perfect for catching up with friends or enjoying a quiet moment with a book. Don’t miss their pastries and fresh cannoli, piped to order and absolutely delicious.

Café de' Mercanti is more than just a coffee shop—it’s a neighborhood hub with a real community feel. If you’re in NDG, do yourself a favor and stop by for a true Italian coffee experience. Highly...

This was my first Café de' Mercanti experience and now I know fully why my friend ordered the double latte! I ordered a latte and received a rather pale milked down version. But that's not the kicker! How about a couple of coconut- chocolate variety cookies to go with that. You can't beat a good coffee with a "GREAT" cookie, right! Sticker - Price shock, $7.00 for two cookies,.....really! OH, I forgot the added value, the waitress told us that they were gluten free....well at least something was free! Nice people, courteous service, well I guess at those ridiculous prices they have to be nice. Will continue to look forward to my weekend dose of single - strong latte and most delicious almond croissant on...

I came across an advertisement on Instagram for this café, and I arranged a day for my family to visit in order to enjoy a cappuccino and croissant, as I have a strong affinity for these items. It was Saturday noon. I ordered two cappuccinos plus a croissant, brownie and 2 slice of cake. The guy who received the order could hardly hear. We took care of ourselves, despite having paid for the services. The cappuccino was predominantly composed of milk, with little discernible flavor of coffee.(Almost latte) The cake lacked freshness, and the croissant had a tangerine flavor that did not appeal to my taste. It was not something I anticipated.

This place is a true embodiment of a "piazza" as my Italian fiancé would say, or a communal space where everyone can come together for their shared addiction; caffeine. The staff is homely, personable, and I feel like I'm going to a family members place for a coffee, and the fact that I can run into friends and family there as well really enhances the vibe of mercanti. I sometimes find the coffee a hair bitter, and slightly acidic for my taste, but that's just my taste, however overall, this place is a staple in NDG.

Adorable little cafe located on Monkland street, not much space but enough for you and your friend to spend the day sip coffee and be on your laptop. definitely has this modern style deco. their coffee is strong and desirable. their deserts are incredibly good. I am definitely going back
