G. Lafrite — Restaurant in Montreal

Easily one of the best "greasy spoon" fast food spots I've been to, and beats most of the Belle Province type restaurants by a landslide. Tried their cheeseburger, steamed hot dog, poutine.

The burger's like whopper sized, which I don't usually see. And really good beef patty, it's dense, hardy and has good texture. Get it with all the vegetable fixings and it's really satisfying.

The poutine's definitely one of the high spots. For a large, they loaded the container above the top with two layers of poutine, which is really cool. The sauce is excellent, works as well as it looks really appealing together with the fries (soft "patates", vintage fries used in classic poutine) and actual cheese curds. The people working there were really nice and welcoming, too.

It's tied for the top spot with Bellepro's beside guzzo in DDO. But this one's less expensive, so it has that. Really enjoyed the food, and appreciate the customer...

Hidden Gem!!! It was my first time eating at G Lafrite the other day, and it was delicious!! It's a 3 minute walk from my house which i love, and after hearing so many good things about this place, I finally decided to try it out.

I ordered a large poutine and a mini cheeseburger. The mini cheeseburger was the best i have ever eaten in my entire life!! It was absolutely delicious, however a bit pricy (around $6 (it was a very small cheeseburger)). The poutine was alright. Definitely not the best i have eaten, but it was still good. I think the only thing that kind of turned me off regarding the poutine, was how sweet the fries were. Other than that, the poutine sauce was very good.

The atmosphere is great. There is a large sitting area at the back of the restaurant, and many picnic tables outside. The employees were also very nice!

I will definitely be going back and...

This place is far from glamorous or fancy, in fact it looks like a old converted house, but for what it is, it's perfect.

The service was extremely quick, and bilingual, no complaints there.

I got home and absolutely devoured two all dressed hot dogs, and honestly one of the best poutines I've had. This isn't haute-cuisine, but the fries, gravy and curds were perfect; just the right amount of greasy and delicious. A good poutine is almost one solid chunk, and this was right on that line.

Definitely must try if you're in Montreal. All the flavors of Quebec fast food...
