Classic favorites like light and airy pancakes and perfectly cooked eggs Benedict share the spotlight with innovative creations like their signature avocado toast with a delightful twist. What truly impressed me beyond the menu itself was the meticulous attention to detail evident in every dish. Each plate was a canvas of vibrant colors, textures, and flavors, meticulously arranged to create a visual masterpiece. It was almost a shame to disturb the artistic presentation, but the enticing aromas and the promise of a delightful taste experience were too tempting to resist. 😍🍽️
While the food stole the show, the artisanal coffee was a revelation in itself. Brewed with precision, it exuded a depth of flavor that perfectly complemented the brunch offerings. The coffee's warmth and aromatic essence provided a wonderful contrast to the flavors on my plate. And no brunch would be complete without a touch of sweetness, which the café catered to impeccably with a tantalizing selection of pastries and desserts. 🍰☕️🥐

Read moreJanine is a great looking and cozy breakfast place with a well thought out menu and home made food.
Let's talk about the place itself first; like most new establishments on Wellington it looks fresh and is well decorated. The ambiance is almost perfect down to how the servers dress. The decor is well thought out and I'd even add that the chairs are quite comfy.
If you end up going during the week it's easy enough to get a table on the spot. However if you end up for a weekend brunch get ready to wait in line.
From the moment you sit down a server will usually get you some water and a nice refreshing shot of juice, an excellent attention to detail and customer service.
The juices, coffees or morning cocktails are all very good, well measured and on par with most quality breakfast places. The coffee won't compete with a specialised barista but that is normal.
Not much on the menu is revolutionary but it doesn't need to be. Everything seems and tastes homemade with a great attention and care in the preparation, something you can definitely tell from the flavours. You don't always need to innovate classic breakfast food with fusion or whatnot when you execute it this well. There are vegan options but I can't give my opinion on these since I haven't tried it.
The only negative point I can find about the items I've tasted is that the fruits aren't particularly special or fresh but at this time of year (winter) it is to be expected.
The one item that stands out the most to me is the scotch eggs. A perfect soft boil to them is the most important feature and it was beautifully done. The choice of breakfast sausage they use isn't my preferred one but it was still quite nice.
Overall this is a well deserved 5 star for a breakfast place. I would never wait in line for more than a few minutes considering how many brunch spots are competing with it but that doesn't deter me from going during the week. The service could be a bit faster but that's pretty much nitpicking...
Read moreMy fiancé and I love this place (and Regine)! We've been to Janine twice and to Regine once, and both cafes offer a fresh perspective on brunching in Montreal!
Their food is really tasty, and ingredients seem to be top quality and very fresh. As for the presentation, I dare to say that they do a far better job than places like George or Marcus that charge 5 times more!
But all that aside, the service! I haven't been to another hospitality business in Quebec that offers such an impeccable, pleasant, well-mannered service! Truly worth every penny that goes for the gratuity**. We were once served by Victoria and the other by Claire. Both were absolutely warm and welcoming. They really take pride and passion in what they do and how well they treat customers! We were recharged by their vibe and energy for the rest of the day!
I'm so glad that we discovered these two cafes. We were so fed up with the brunch scene in Montreal! It was either low-level options like Allo, Ben, Cora, etc. or Old port taverns, George, Marcus, etc. that are all the same but the price! Seriously, Janine and Regine are game changers!
Can't wait to enjoy our next brunch at Janine!
**You know how 99% of restaurants/cafes in Quebec do the bare minimum cause they know we feel pressured under their piercing gaze at the end to press that 15% on top of tax? Well, in Janine, they offer a topnotch 5-star service and then leave the EFTPOS to...
