Kalysta — Restaurant in Montreal

Very disappointed with my experience at Kalysta. We ordered a mac & cheese bowl starter and a duo of bokits. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty, we had to wait 45 minutes for our food, and when it finally arrived, the bokits were completely cold. We had to point it out in order to get replacements.

To make matters worse, we didn’t even have basic essentials like napkins or plates when our food was served.

It was also very difficult to get the server’s attention just to order drinks. Meanwhile, several staff members seemed to be spending more time drinking at the bar than attending to customers.

The service was honestly very disappointing. It’s a shame, Kalysta didn’t used to be like this. I won’t be going back.

Kalysta is the best place I could have wished for my fiancé’s surprise bday party. The venue is beautiful and cozy. All of the staff members were extremely nice, the atmosphere was so good!! I have difficulty finding the right words to describe the quality of the drinks and food… ;) the Acras and Griot were delicious! They serve the kind of plantain you steal from your friend when they’re not looking drooling just thinking about it. Even the dessert was so yummy!! I can’t think of a recent experience where a restaurant aced all courses. Everyone was so content and impressed, I am so happy we went there. The server was great, but the food was very disappointing. We ordered the jerk chicken poutine, which sat in a bowl of oil. Then we also wanted to try the recommendation, so we ordered the tuna tataki and ceviche. They both were on the warm side, as if it was not stored well or as it has been sitting out of the fridge for a while. We found a scale in the ceviche. The tuna tataki didn’t even look the same as the pictures posted. We have tried tataki and ceviche before, which was why we wanted to try it here. The server quickly took initiative and offered to replace the items with something else, but didn’t accept because we were not sure if the rest would have been okay. I had a sour kalysta cocktail...
