You can tell much thought, hard work and testing has gone into this new Greek cantina which promises to have some of the more authentic offerings in the city. To start off with they add some fries into their pita sandwiches to prove they are serious about it. Second and thirdly (as their name points out) their souvlaki and gyro standout even in a city with some pretty darn good Greek. Well marinated and cooked to perfection. I found the souvlaki to be one of the most memorable I've ever had, literally five on five in every category. They are also doing thicker (than most places) tzaztiki which is also a sign they are on the ball with authenticity. Another hit is their Loukaniko which is of high quality and has a peppery kick to it. Try as a side or put on poutine. A must try is their Poutine Niko - a signature dish with ample house made gyro chunks on top. I'm looking forward to trying their honey drizzled yogurt dessert.
As per the decor it is very airy and well thought out, with powder blue chairs with sand coloured cushions to emulate those found on the Greek Islands. The white washed wood paneled wall with their logo painted on it in the upper seating area is definitely worthy of accolade. There is a cool chalkboard menu which banners the top of the opposite wall. The wide front counter shows the bustling open kitchen behind it and is staffed by friendly and welcoming people. The owners are normally on site which means they are serious about good service and quality control. Hopefully, they will keep it all up as the waves of rushes with undoubtedly come in to try what is being hyped on social media and through word of mouth. They've got a good thing started now is the fine tuning time. Speaking of which the only thing I will point out as another reviewer did is the poutine base needs a bit more precision. Unlike them, I like the sauce, but find the fries and cheese need a slight adjustment. Pretty certain all will be worked out in time as they've only just opened recently and even the son of Zeus would have to admit the restaurant business can be a challenge to begin with, but more so an Olympian one to keep at a high standard. The team at Minos will have to be more than mere mortals to manage this hefty task, but from what I've seen thus far they're up to...
Read moreI have walked through the labyrinth of the many gyro spots in Montreal in my quest to find an authentic Greek gyro. I have been sorely disappointed until today. Minos is an exceptional Greek food experience that is truly reminiscent of the souvlaki shops you find in Greece.
Beautifully decorated, spotless with a modern minimalist flair, the dining experience is cosy, relaxed and transports you to the Greek islands.
I ordered the Gyro platter, which was delicious and very filling . The meat was lean and tender and crispy on the outside just the way I like it. The greek salad was exceptional, it’s all about using quality tomatoes! I was surprised by how good the rice was, which in most Greek restaurants is an afterthought. These guys however use Basmati rice, which is fit for a Minoan King. My kids enjoyed their gyro pitas and chicken souvlaki sticks, the tzatziki was a hit. I have a gluten allergy and they have many items on the menu that are gluten-free.
They have a nice selection of drinks and I particularly enjoyed the Yamas mango iced tea. Looking forward to trying their Imported Greek beer the next time I go.
Minos can truly be crowned Montreal’s new King of Souvlaki. Long...
Read moreFriendly service, tasty Fries….BUT we came here for the Gyro pita. We left very disappointed😔 It lacked so much flavour, the meat quality was okay, but it did not “wow” us at all, yes the pita was pretty big but the meat was also sliced weird…in small chunky pieces, maybe we got the end of it? and the tzatziki had no taste! I was confused and at first thought maybe it was me? but my husband said the same, no taste? and we love our tzatziki! so this was probably the worst tzatziki we ever had! no garlic taste , very, very bland…tasted like plain yogurt, it was just weird because the tzatziki to me is like one of the most important things and what complements the whole pita. I feel so bad to leave this review because the staff was so nice. I just had this expectation that it would be one of the best pitas in Mtl and it wasn’t 😔 we drove 30 minutes to try this so called amazing gyro pita and we were truly disappointed, sorry guys. Maybe if the Tzatziki recipe changes and the way the gyro meat is seasoned & sliced it would probably be a very delicious pita… Unfortunately, this place was not for us as there are so many better Greek restos in Mtl. That being said we are still happy...
