Monkland Grill — Restaurant in Montreal

This establishment is Racist!!! Please save yourself the trouble of going there if you are black and unaccompanied or if you are any other ethnicity with a complexion of a darker hue. Where is this opinion coming from?: Well just recently I ( a young black female) entered the establishment by myself to place an order for take out. The waitress who was a middle aged Caucasian woman who looked to be in her mid to late fifties , normal build, with long brunette hair placed in a ponytail came to service me and take my order. As she was midway through taking my order, two older Caucasian women where seated towards the back of the restaurant, one looked to be in her 70's and the other in her sixties called out to the waitress that they wanted to have their orders taken even though they clearly saw the waitress taking my order. The waitress who was serving me then replied " "I am in the middle of taking this woman's order and I will service you shortly". The older women then reply " We know, but we want you to take our order instead". The waitress then abruptly stops taking my order without an apology or explanation and goes to service the two women. I was so shocked and disgusted by the waitress lack of professionalism, that I just walked out of the restaurant. When I conveyed my experience to my friends who live around the area, They told me that they avoid that establishment because it always gives them a rather iffy feeling because you see nothing but white middle aged people inside and the establishment doesn't give you the feeling that they are welcoming to anyone else. So perhaps my experience justifies this theory. I must also add this was a quiet afternoon, she appeared to be the only waitress available. It was only me, the two elderly woman, a man, and the waitress that appeared to be in the establishment at the time. this was my very first time going into that establishment. So now you have been warned. If you are any other ethnicity other than a Anglophone preferably middle aged white person , be prepared for what you might be subjected to. You have been...

Wow, I can't believe this place doesn't have a higher rating.

My Chicken Pita Plate order was prepared when I arrived there about 20 minutes later. I walked home another 20 minutes, and the food was still warm.

Almost all of the packaging is compostable and recyclable, except for the container holding the dressing and the plastic utensils that were accidentally (I think) put in.

I was blown away by how good the pita was-what was in that garlicky sauce? And the rice and potatoes that came with it were amazing, too.

I could have saved the rice for another day, but it was too good. However, I will be keeping the salad for the following day since I'm so full.

The cashier asked if it was my first time at Monkland Grill. I nodded, and he proclaimed, "you're gonna love it and be back for more."

The lady at the counter was very nice, other than that I would never do take out from there again. What I did not appreciate was that random people from outside were walking in and out of the kitchen to talk with the cook. Then, the owner of the restaurant took my money and was packing my food and some fries fell from the bag and he picked them up off the dirty counter and put them in my bag. I was so upset that I told him he should have not done that because his hands were dirty from taking my money and the counter is not clean. He preceded to throw the bag of food on the counter. He then refused to give me back my money.Not impressed.
