Went to Mouton Vert for the first time last night and was greeted by a wonderful server named Spencer who took the time to explain their dishes. Some were on the normal menu and some were not. I opted for a veggie sausage sandwich not on the menu (Spencer informed me it was very popluar) and a couple of salads (baby kale with butternut squash and quinoa and a baby spinach salad with feta and tomatoes). As I was waiting, I was greeted by the owner, Maggie, who generously offered me to taste a freshly made cabbage roll and I must say that it was delicious! This roll definitely whet my appetite for my sausage sandwich and salads and I could not wait to take them home and eat them. While ringing me up (the sandwich and salads came up to over $18.00, which is not cheap, but I figured if the cabbage roll were any indication, I was definitely going to get my money's worth), Maggie told me that what started it all was the organic olive oil that she makes herself and sells in the restaurant. According to Maggie, her olive oil is used in everything she cooks, which is why the food tastes so great. Well, I have to say that when I finally got home and sat down to eat, I devoured every last bite! That sausage sandwich was EXCELLENT and the salads were fresh, clean, and beyond tasty! Even though I was full, I did not want the meal to end. Kudos to Maggie for creating such delicious vegetarian food! Read moreI just got in from biking to Mouton Vert and back, it's about a 40 min ride each way from where I am if I hit all the green lights....It is easily my favourite ride because I come home with a backpack full of the best food.
The olive oil and honey are beyond incredible. The pesto...wow I mean i eat it with a spoon. While I was too late for the spanakopita this time (it's so good it sells out) I got what is probably the best vegan chocolate chip cookie I've had (on the house too! Thank you!)
I can't say enough good things about this place. My employer purchased a gift card for me and I am so grateful she did as I now have a new favourite destination in the city. I only wish I lived closer! Can't wait...
