I've lived in a few different places in Montreal and can confidently say that Croissant Monkland makes the best chocolatine I've tried. They knock it out of the park with everything else as well: crepes, croissants, bread, cakes etc. Truly. And the staff is always nice and courteous and on the ball. I would easily give it 5 stars but I will say there are two small drawbacks.
they are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Mondays aren't so bad, but Sunday is THE bakery day in my opinion. But I'm sure they have their reasons.
The organization in terms of clientele is a little haphazard. While it is a totally smooth experience when there aren't many people, it becomes a bit of a free for all when it's busy. You have to be ready to play a game of human chess so people don't accidentally (or purposely sometimes) cut in front of you. It's a bit anxiety inducing unless you've lived in France, in which case cutting in front of people and getting cut in front of is sort of par for the course. However, to me personally, it's a big pet peeve, but maybe I'm just being precious. Overall, best baked goods in town, always go here when I can and take people who...
This used to be on Monkland corner Old Orchard , as many are probably already aware. I really like what the owner did with decor and overall atmosphere of the place . The staff get 5 Stars as they really work quickly and efficiently. The Croissants are very good but the new Boulangerie on Monkland Corner Beaconsfield has better Baguets IMHO. The place on Monkland makes everything from scratch and fresh while if you notice on Sherbrooke its from frozen and pre made . We go in for lunch regularly at this location and its very good for this type of place. I do find though the plastic plates ( which are already stained and look dirty and not washed even though they are clean, simply stained) and cheap plastic little glasses for water out of character.....she did such a nice job on everything else that such a simple little thing like this could be easily fixed especially compared to the competition. My suggestion is buy real plates and glasses as in any restaurant and try and improve on Baguettes as they are pretty average . Overall kudos to the...
Read moreA renowned chef once told me that you judge a French restaurant by their crème brûlée and a bakery by their croissants. I will extend that and say if the bakery has the word Croissant in their name, then it better be their best offering.
Unfortunately Croissant Monkland had pretty much the worst croissant I’ve ever eaten. The outer crust was soft and flat, the inner pastry was moist with no puff, and you could barely taste the butter.
Too bad because their other take out baking-related foods were exceptional. I loved the Croque Monsieur, the Ham & Cheese Crêpe and the Spinach Omelette.
It was my first time there and I’m hoping it was just one bad croissant day for them. I will give them another try since I have so much respect for bakers, everything else I bought was delicious and they gave me a refund after I called and complained.
C’mon Croissant Monkland, pick up your croissant game! We want to see...
